The movie “Radio” is definitely a re-telling of the parable of the Good Samaritan because in the main story line, Radio is found, on the streets with only his mum left but Coach Jones took Radio in, knowing that he was disabled and cared for him, gave him a social life and friends. The main story point with the Good Samaritan story is that a man was brutally bashed and left to die on the streets but a Samaritan, of a completely different religion helps this man and brings him to an inn where he is cared for by the man and is paid fully by him. In the first part of the story, the man was walking down a road to Jerusalem and was brutally bashed and beaten almost to the point of death. The Samaritan clothes him, feeds him, helps him recover and pays for every single thing until he can work again and be back to his better self. During this time, the Samaritan was not liked as it was very rare to see anything like this happen which is why he was almost rejected by a few. In Radio, Coach Jones takes care of Radio, he feeds him, he cares for him, helps him and shows mercy to him like Jesus’ taught his disciples to do. Coach Jones plays with him, teaches him English, Maths and other subjects as well as he includes him in the football program like no other kid which was very intriguing. During this time, Coach Jones went through many hardships including Frank Clay who did not like Radio and was against Coach Jones. Coach Jones was also not accepted in the community at the beginning by a few but later people accepted Radio and Jesus’ message, “love another and I will love you”, †he message got through Coach Jones mind and Radio was accepted by the community for years to come.
