Through the story, “A Monkey’s Paw”, W.W Jacobs uses the character, Mr.White, to show that putting faith in a talisman and interfering with fate will wreck people’s lives. While the family and Sargent are discussing the spell put on the monkey’s paw, the Sargent defeatedly tosses it into the burning flames. Quite suddenly, “White, with a slight cry, [stoops] down and [snatches] it off.” The secret aspiration that he puts in the charm is revealed through that narration. Mr. White believes in the monkey’s paw and its ability to grant wishes enough to quickly grab it off the fire. Even after being warned, he still wants to believe that go. Managers and subordinates both have a very distinct relationship. As described in the article Who’s Got the Monkey by William Oncken, Jr., & Donald L. Wass, “the monkey” is the ultimate exchange between the manager and his or her team members. The monkey is most certainly the time, work effort, ethic, pressure, and most importantly, the responsibility that a manager and an employee exchanges throughout their time spent together. I personally view the “monkey” metaphorically as the big kahuna! Shifting the monkey between the two relevant parties is a task like no other because, the monkey is, essentially, the relationship between an employee and their boss; it is a valuable form of communication.…

The fakir’s point can be proven by details in the story because Herbert began brought back to life, the first man’s last wish was for his death, and the 200 pounds in compensation for Herberts death all can support that the fakir’s point was proven in the story. The first man’s two wishes caused him so much pain that his last wish was for his own death. A detail from Sergeant Major Morris states that the first man’s last wish was for death. As Sergeant Major Morris states “I don’t know where the first two were but the third was for death, that’s how I got the paw.”…

In the short story and the film version of “A Monkey’s Paw.” by W.W Jacobs, mood is established and changes many times. It is, however, easier to display mood in the film then in the written form. For example, when the White family is sitting amongst the fire, waiting for their guest, it is easier to show that the mood is calm and warm by having the actors sit contently by the fire making small conversation. In the story, W.W Jacobs has to be more descriptive in his writing so the reader can imagine the father and son playing chess as the mother cleans and then take notice of the mood. Another example of mood is when Herbert is brought back from the dead and is knocking on the door. Both versions create suspense, but in two different ways.…

Winnie stood, shuffling past the people seated in their chairs. She walked out of the dark theatre, her eyes adjusting to the light-filled entrance room. Winnie spotted a strange looking animal at the end of the hallway. She wasn't usually the adventerous type, but she thought it was an adorable creature. As she continued walking, she stared right at it, faling to notice an open suitcase on the floor. When her foot reached the suitcase, she didn't feel a floor below.
