The Maze Runner Hero Quotes
A -“Maze”- ing Thomas Characters are an important element of a novel. They make a story come alive. Heroes tend to be daring, in order to “save the day”. In James Dashner’s novel, The Maze Runner, Thomas, the protagonist, is curious, determined and courageous, all heroic character traits. His inquisitiveness, grit and bravery throughout the novel prove to the reader that he is truly a hero. Throughout the novel, Thomas demonstrates his heroism through instances that illustrate his curiosity. He does not understand the Gladers way of life, or even why they ended up in a mysterious world called the Glade. “Strangely enough, he felt his fear whisked away like a swarm of gnats, caught in the wind, replaced by an intense curiosity. His courage is highlighted when Alby, Minho and he are trapped in the maze for an entire night. Minho abandons them and Thomas is left to save the unconscious Alby. “He thought of the wall, the ivy. Minho hadn’t explained, but he had made it sound as if climbing the walls was impossible. Still... A plan formed in his mind. It all depended on the unknown abilities of the Grievers, but it was the best thing he could come up with.” (120-121). This illustrates that he is courageous because, even though he has never been in the maze before, he braves the unknown to survive, as well as save Alby. He is also courageous while in the Griever Hole with Chuck and Teresa. Teresa is trying to punch in a code and set them free from the Maze, but a Griever enters the Hole. Thomas has to be daring or they will risk being stung by the Griever, failing to solve the Maze and never being able to return to their normal
