The Maze Runner By James Dashner
The Maze Runner by James Dashner begins with Thomas, the main character, first entering the maze through a metal elevator cage. The cage rises from deep underground and suddenly is in the maze. Once the cage is opened, he is surrounded by Gladers which are a society of teenage boys that live in the maze. Following Thomas’ arrival, he is given an overview of the Glade which is the safe home that all of the boys live in surrounded by maze. His tour is interrupted as a new supply drop comes up from the cage. This supply drop is unusual because usually the cage only comes up once every month, but to make it even weirder is that it contains a woman. The girl says, "Everything is going to change" then returns to her deep sleep and later becomes known as Teresa. …show more content…
The Gladers take her to their Medical Room and one of their “runners” named Minho, says he noticed a dead Griever as he traveled through the maze that day. A Griever is and alien like monster that patrols the maze every night. This is a significant point in the plot because a Griever has never been found dead before and it may lead to many new discoveries. Minho takes Alby, the leader of all the boys, to go find and dissect the dead Griever. The two boys don’t return to the Glade all day and many worry for their safety. They finally return, but Alby is stung and they won't be able to make it back to the Glade before the gates protecting it from the maze close. Since they can’t make it, Thomas brakes the first of many rules and runs through the walls as the doors close to live a night in the

In The Maze Runner, Thomas and his friends constantly live in anxiety that they will all be killed by hideous monsters and never make it out of the maze. During Tears of a Tiger, Andy had witnessed death right in front of him and had scarred him to a very threatening point in his life. Both The Maze Runner and Tears of a Tiger share a common theme of death because both Thomas and Andy are shocked by death, someone committed suicide, and they both witness a death or two.…

We are constantly influenced by various things we encounter, these things even have the potential to change the way we view the world around us, none more so than texts like Khaled Hosseini's novel, The Kite Runner. The book is a retelling of an Afghani boy's life, which addresses the issues of friendship, coming of age, and the power of the past can have on somebody. The Author's way of addressing of these issues, has significantly shaped my own views, specifically how friendship can often be unequal, how coming of age can be based upon a specific event, and that the actions from the past can haunt you until the day you die. Through Hosseini's presentation of these issues and ideas, The Kite Runner has both changed and reinforced my opinions about friendship and how previous actions can haunt your present reality.…

As the “Greenie,” or newbie, he is very curious about what is going on around him. Nobody will answer any of his simple questions, and he gets very discouraged. A few of these people he talks to are Chuck, Newt, Minho, and Alby. Chuck is a nice, thirteen year old boy who was the “Greenie” before Thomas came. Newt is a seventeen year old ex-runner. Runners are the people who explore the maze and try to find a way out. Minho is the Keeper of the Runners; meaning he is their leader. There are many Keepers over the individual job groups.
