The Maze Runner
In the Maze Runner Thomas encounters difficult setbacks as he discovers his plan to escape the Maze. First Thomas wakes up with no memory of his past life. Other teenage boys are there to greet him. The next day a girl arrives in the Box which is very unusual. A note came along with her stating that the Creators wouldn’t send another Glader. Then Thomas learns the roles of the Gladers and being a Runner is calling to him. Runners go in to the Maze to see if there is a pattern in the way the walls move before the doors close. It is risky business though as Grievers are everywhere in the Maze. Later, Thomas meets a boy named Ben who recently went through the Changing after being stung by a Griever. Ben claims he saw Thomas during the changing, …show more content…
Next, Minho, the Keeper of the Runners, came running as if he were about to faint. He had spoken about a dead Griever in the Maze. Alby and Minho went to check on the dead Griever and bring it back the Glade to investigate but the doors were about to close. Thomas unknowingly went in to try and save both of them but it was too late, the doors had closed. During their night in the Maze, Thomas dodged four Grievers, found the Griever Hole, and survived the whole night with Alby and Minho which no one has done before. The next day the leaders had a gathering to talk about punishment for Thomas’s rule breaking. Minho quickly thought Thomas should be Keeper of the Runners for his bravery and tuck n’ roll move. Later as Teresa is still in a coma, she speaks to Thomas through her mind and tells him that she triggered the ending and that the maze is a code. Meanwhile Gally, the bully, leaves and isn’t seen for a long time. Thomas is now trained to be runner when one day he wakes up and there is no sun. Everyone noticed that the doors had never closed that night. Gally finally comes back and informs the Gladers that the Grievers will take and kill one person per

    The Keepers decide his punishment to be one day in the “slammer”. When he wakes up the following morning he hears Teresa speak to him in his mind. Although he can not seem to talk back to her, he listens to what she says. After eating breakfast, he goes to the Slammer to serve his day as punishment. During lunch time Chuck brings him something to eat while talking to him. During this conversation Thomas makes a promise to Chuck. He promised that he would get Chuck home to his family. Slowly but surely Finny began to remember more and more of that day. What finally set him off to realize what Gene did was the return of Leper. Leper enlisted and went out to the war but began seeing things so people thought he was delusional, so he ran away to his mother’s house and ended up wandering around Devon. At the senior boys’ meeting Leper revealed that while by the base of the tree and looking up at the branch where Finny and Gene were, he saw the shape of a body make a sudden move then he saw the other body fall from the trees.
