The Mayan Calendars

The Maya were the most complex civilization in the western hemisphere. Maya were responsible for many scientific achievements like in astronomy, agriculture, engineering and communications. The Maya lived up to 2,000 years throughout this time they came up with a complex form of astronomy. They also learned how to farm work, and grow crops like: corn beans and squash. That was all part of their agricultural side however, apart from that the Maya were really good at astronomy and engineering. For example, an Astronomy factor would be living off of not just one but two complicated callender systems. The mayan believed a lot in the cosmos and how they impacted the way of life. They used astrological cycles to create these two calendars to help predict when it would be a good time to grow crops.
These calendars were sacred, each day of the year had a specific number and point to its number. The two calendars were one of 260 days and another 365 days, like our regular year. From this it can be inferred that Mayan people and there astrology advances influenced our own calendars today. Apart from the astrology in the Mayan peoples community they had a very complex structural and engineering system based off of their homes and temples. The engineering on the Mayan temples is something of wonders to many of the best engineers in the world today. The structure of the rock and material and how it was all put together is still a mystery to many. The tools used to create such detailed designs and perfect shaped and fitted rocks were tools made by jade rock. Jade is a very strong material harder than iron and steel however, it is very rare around the world. After doing this research it shows that the Mayan were very advanced in many different aspects of their lives especially in Astronomy.
