Dictionary definition of 'Materialistic';
1. Concerned with material wealth and possessions at the expense of spiritual or intellectual values.
2. Having the belief that having money and possessions is the most important thing in life.
3. Showing great or excessive regard for worldly concerns.
4. Having attitude that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life.
5. A bourgeois mentality concerned primarily with gaining money and the things that money can buy. * Materialistic describes a person who is markedly more concerned with material things (such as money and possessions) rather than spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values; an adherent of materialism. * Some people say that Money cant buy you happiness...(in the instance of finding love) * Some say that its whats on the inside that counts and apperance doesnt matter. This is hard to belive and there are no known examples of love being found this way. People care about the material things such as how much money, cleanliness etc. Normal people want stability and comfort. However, some would argue that if you connect with someone on a romatic level then who they are on the outside doesnt matter, and that if it was true love then you would get round th eother person flaws. But, if this person was say homeless then are they saying that they wouldnt ask this person to move in with them and not the other way around. Humans want the best for themsleves and the people they love, they work hard to get happiness which means being surrounded with materialistic things. * Materialists belive that the only things that are real are the things that can be percieved by the senses, they deny the existence ofGod and the immorality of the individual soul. * One of the earliest materialists was Democritus, a greek philosopher in 4th century BC.
