The Manipulation Of Characters In Shakespeare's Othello

The book Othello tells us a tragic story of how friends and loved ones are tricked and manipulated by a close friend. Othello and Iagos friendship shows us that someone you trust can manipulate you and cause much tragedy with the others around them.In the beginning of the book Iago comes up with a plan to make Othello hate and/or leave his wife Desdemona, he did this so he could possibly be with her due to the love he has for her. Iago knew he had Othellos trust and that he’d believe mostly anything he would tell or say to him. He knew this was the way to manipulte Othello.

Iago started his plan by telling Othello that his lieutenant Cassio and his wife Desdemona were having an affair with eachother. Iago had chosen Cassio due to him …show more content…
He had told Othello Cassio had a strawberry handkercheif that belonged to Desdemona. Othello had given Desdemona the handkercheif out of his love and faith in her. Othello said he would’nt believe it unless he’d see it with his own eyes. Iago made it possible, agos wife Emilia was Desdeomans best friend or “First Lady”. Emilia had stolen the handkercheif like her husband Iago asked but she never knew what he wanted it for. He had put the handkercheif in Cassios place.Soon Othello had seen Cassio with it,Othello felt so betrayed by the one he loved. He felt like he had to kill her because there wasn’t another choice, he didn’t want her to hurt another man like she had done to him. Othello had then killed Desdemona, Emilia came in a few moments later to delive rother news to Othello. She realized what had happened and was gonna tell others, He stopped her by killing her to.

Later he found out everything Iago had told him was all a lie. Cassio and Desdemona never did anything with eachother. Iago used the trust Othello had for him to manipulated Othello and cause tradegy between everyone. Othello was so upset and devestated that he ended up killing himself. You never know who you can and can’t trust no matter how close you are with
