the magic of bubble wrap
My topic is about using bubble wrap to save the energy! Staying energy efficient is crucial in saving money. When I moved into my first house on campus, I was very shocked at the first heating bill. Soon after, I decided to find ways to lower my energy bill, through means of energy efficiency. After learning about energy efficiency in class, I learned that big portion of energy is consumed by space heating. So I insulated my windows with bubble wrap. I recently received my next heating bill to see that I had indeed saved money by staying energy efficient. Bubble is magic.
How does it work? The bubble wrap resists changes in temperature and the air inside of the bubble changes gradually due to the movement of the molecules. Cavity wall insulation combines with captive air to act as a barrier in preventing loss of heat. So during winter or summer, the temperature inside the room would last longer whether it is cold or hot air.
Material
1. Bubble Wrap
- The price of the 12-inch wide x 30-feet long is $4.97 dollar in Amazon website.

2. Water Spray
- Simply, it is a spray bottle that you could purchase on any mart and the price is around $ 2.00 dollar

3. Scissor
- A scissor would be needed to cut the bubble wrap. Knife is also possible.
Procedure
Cut the bubble wrap to the size of the window pane with scissor. It is preferred if you have ruler, it is going to be more accurate. After that, spray a film of water on the window using a spray bottle. If you don’t have spray water, putting water on your hand and spraying directly to the window also works. Next, apply the bubble wrap on the window. Remember, the bubble side goes toward the glass. As you see the picture above, the sprayed water could be seen through the bubble wrap. The water will be gone after minutes. Now, basically you are done installing the bubble wrap insulation on the window. To be honest, it also looks nice to show to your friends. In order to remove the bubble wrap, just

There are so many choices on insulation, it gets overwhelming very easily! My partner Jenna and I researched and found that bubble wrap can be a great insulator. It is a great insulator because it has air pockets, the air will react slowly letting less heat into the house at a time. However, we did find one downfall to bubble wrap as an insulator, it needs to be replaced every couple years. Even though it needs replaced it slows heat transfer much more than cotton will. It would help a lot to place your bubble wrap with the bubbles facing the inside not only will it help performance, it is easier to put in. It may be a hard decision but any insulation will help cool your house.…
