[One day a poor boy, who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry and so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?" She replied, You don't owe me anything. My mother has taught us never to accept payment for a kindness." He said, "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strengthened also. He had been ready to give up and quit.]
[Year's later, that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialist to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, he went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown, he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day, he gave special attention to the case. After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested from the business office to pass the final billing to him for approval. He looked at it, and then wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words: "Paid in full with one glass of milk Signed: Dr. Howard Kelly." Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her

I believe that Roald Dahl wants us to think Mrs. Maloney is a victim. I think this because in the story Mrs. Maloney looks to be a nice, kindhearted woman who is devoted to her husband, even though he would ignore her presence when she was speaking to him. "I think it's a shame," she said, "that when someone's been a policeman as long as you have, he still has to walk around all day long." He didn't answer. Although Mr. Maloney ignored his wife and was not interested in what Mrs. Maloney had to say she still continued to speak to him a respectful manner. When Mr. Maloney decided to tell Mary that he was leaving her for another woman she tried to deny his words in her mind. “And he told her. It didn't take long, four or five minutes at most, and she sat still through it all, watching…

In the morning I was walking with my dog, when suddenly I noticed an old man sitting on the street while people were walking on the road ignoring him. The weather seemed a bit chillier this morning and his skin was rugged and looked tough. His outfit looked dirty, especially on the jacket. I looked at that old man, but he didn’t look at me. I was thinking, why was he sitting on the street in the morning? “Why do you sit on the road?” I asked the man, He replied to me, “this is my place”. I was shocked. I thought he may be homeless, but I’ve found that living with the homeless is not so bad as long as we understand them. Most people ignore homeless, but I don’t why. He looked hungry and I asked him “Are you hungry? “He said “YES” so I went to Country Fair to get him some pizza and a drink. I gave it to him, and he told me, “I don’t how to say thank you” I felt so bad for him. I gave him a few dollars, and I told him that…

He was lying in his bed struggling to take every breath. The Hospice doctor said he wouldn’t live more than twenty-four hours now. Uncle Ralph’s chest sounded like a motor running because his lungs were so congested. We thought that suctioning out his lungs would help him to breathe a little easier so I volunteered to ask the nurse for help. Doctor Kinsley called for an available nurse. The one around the corner yelled back that she could come to his room. She was told that we requested some help for Ralph’s breathing, and she said, “Shall I dim the lights and open the windows for them too?”…

In a large town there was an old woman who sat in the evening alone in her room thinking how she had lost first her husband, then both her children, then one by one all her relations, and at length, that very day, her last friend, and now she was quite alone and desolate. She was very sad at heart, and heaviest of all her losses to her was that of her sons; and in her pain she blamed God for it. She was still sitting lost in thought, when all at once she heard the bells ringing for early prayer. She was surprised that she had thus in her sorrow watched through the whole night, and lighted her lantern and went to church. It was already lighted up when she arrived, but not as it usually was with wax candles, but with a dim light. It was also crowded already with people, and all the seats were filled; and when the old woman got to her usual place it also was not empty, but the whole bench was entirely full. And when she looked at the people, they were none other than her dead relations who were sitting there in their old-fashioned garments, but with pale faces. They neither spoke nor sang; but a soft humming and whispering was heard all over the church. Then an aunt of hers stood up, stepped forward, and said to the poor old woman, "Look there beside the altar, and thou wilt see thy sons." The old woman looked there, and saw her two children, one hanging on the gallows, the other bound to the wheel. Then said the aunt, "Behold, so would it have been with them if they had lived, and if the good God had not taken them to himself when they were innocent children." The old woman went trembling home, and on her knees thanked God for having dealt with her more kindly than she had been able to understand, and on the third day she lay down and died.…

Now I want to describe an event that happened recently. Last year, I went on vacation to Nigeria with my family. On my father’s way home from sightseeing, he encountered a homeless man. This man had absolutely nothing. He had no money, his clothes were torn and stained, and he looked as though he were dying. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t know where his next meal was going to come from. Seeing this man, my heart went out to him. It made me question why some people are so unlucky. My family and I decided to help this man. We happily – gave him the rest of the money we had left.…
