The Lightning Thief Quotes
Trey Parker once said, “Every hero needs a sidekick; every captain needs a mate.” This quote means, even if a hero thinks they can do everything alone then they mistaken. In the book, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. It is about young, brave Percy Jackson (son of Poseidon) who is on a quest to return the master Lightning bolt back to Olympus because if not there will be a war of the gods. Percy is being accused of stealing the bolt. He knows he didn’t take it but he doesn’t know who did. On his way to figuring out he stole the bolt he meets, Annabeth: daughter of Athena, and Grover his “friend” from school who ends up being his protector. Since the group needed the second pearl they had to find it in a museum. They saw a giant statue of a Athena in the center of the room. The pearl was on her crown, it was too busy to take it that moment so they had to stay after hours. They used the flying shoes Luke loaned them to get it. They had it but they saw five janitors, who said to Percy, “give us the lightning bolt Percy Jackson.” He ran and they all turned into a three headed dragon. Percy dropped the pearl, he needed a distraction to be able to get it. So Annabeth started to call it names and ran. He almost got it when they breathed fire, he used the shield Luke gave him to protect himself. He used his water powers to break the fountains and splash all water on the beast. Percy cut off its heads, but he didn't know they grew back but with more. Now it had six heads! They got the pearl and ran towards the door when it was about to blow fire at them. Grover took out Medusa’s head and showed it to the beast. It turned to rock and they left. Thank goodness he was with his friends or he would have been doomed.

Like Percy, Ulysses from the book The Adventures of Ulysses by Bernard Evslin. Ulysses also needed help like when he needed to get rid of the suitors, his son and loyal servants helped with this. He ended up winning and getting his family back. Even strong and brave Ulysses needed help with facing his challenges. This proves the point that, “Every hero needs a sidekick; Every captain needs a mate.” While, Percy Jackson the hero of The Lightning Thief needs help at

After, reading my summer novel, Bleachers, I have analyzed and recognized a unlikley hero, Neely Crenshaw, the main character in my novel. First, in my case, only one hero is determined in my novel, even though there could be more then one in some novels. Furthermore, even it though it is rare to have more than one protagonist or hero, mutiple heroes occur when the group of main characters in a novel both express the same level of importance. Also, this can occur if many main characters in a novel share qualities of a quester, and thus could be young, inexperienced, immature, and sheltered from the past and he outside world. Therefore, heroes in every novel share a similar trait, their thirst for self knowledge and understanding. Finally, in most instances, someone tells the hero, who need not look for heroic, to go somewhere out of their comfort zone and do something, even know in the end it never involves the stated reason. Secondly, in the novel Bleachers the main character, Neely Crenshaw,…

Everyone is great in their own way, even those who may not realize it or appreciate it. In the end, your worth will show in some way. In the book, The Lightning Thief, I thought I that it was about a boy named Percy who has dyslexia and ADHD that always gets into trouble. Then, Percy learns that his dad is the sea god Poseidon. Afterwards, Percy finds out that Zeus has accused him of stealing his lightning bolt. Now, Percy must go on a quest with his new friends to find Zeus's lightning bolt so that there isn't another world war. He also wants to save his mom who has been taken to the Underworld. Now, I think Rick Riordan is trying to teach us that everyone has great worth, even those who feel different and unappreciated.…

Conteaza cine spune primul!

On the subject of heroism, Maya Angelou once wrote that “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people” (Angelou). The general picture that comes to mind when the word “hero” is said is the idea of Superman or Wonder Woman; however, a true hero is anyone who tries to make their world a better place. Odysseus, the hero in Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, fought in the Trojan War and embarked on a ten year journey to return to his kingdom, Ithaca. During his quest to return home, he encounters many supernatural forces that show both his heroic, and not so heroic actions. He faces countless challenges, meets new people, and has to make sacrifices for the overall benefit of his crew (Bowler and Homer 645-705).…

    Nietzsche's Lightning

When describing the lightning and the flash, Nietzsche is alluding to the human tendency to disassociate two things that are related. This may be because lightning is the descriptor and the flash is the action, which leads humans to separate the two. Nietzsche describes this mental process as “taking the latter for an action… separates. strength from expression of strength.” The lightning and the flash is related to the lambs and the birds of prey because it is impossible to separate, and blame, the birds of prey from their strength: their tendencies to kill. It would be as equally impossible to separate and blame the lambs for their weakness as their weakness functions as a way to protect themselves. The lambs do not understand this and thus…

Superheroes have become increasingly popular in recent times and most people have their favorite from Superman to Batman to the Avengers. Not all heroes have to be superheroes with superpowers. Many people can identify heroes in their everyday life as well. Heroes can be someone that helps a person, for example many people consider their parents to be heroes because of the support they provide them in life. The difference between a superhero and a hero is that heroes are normal people just trying to be there for others while superheroes are made up characters in a book or movie with extraordinary powers. Mistakes are part of everyone’s life, but the difference between a normal person and a hero is that when a hero makes a mistake they work to fix it or overcome the problem. In the book the Odyssey, there are many problems and obstacles that Odysseus has to overcome in his attempt to get home. In the beginning of, Macbeth, the Macbeths cared for each other. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth both were secure with their relationship and each other. They also trusted one another very much. “Great Glamis, worthy Cawdor! Greater than both by the all-hail hereafter! This ignorant present, and I feel now the future is the instant” (Lady Macbeth Act 1, Scene 5, Line 53-58). This quote is showing how excited Lady Macbeth was to see her husband and if she only cared for herself she would not be excited to see him. Towards the end of the play their caring for each other starts to unravel and crumble but any relationship put under the pressure of murder and scandal will start to fall apart and become more distant than it was before.…

The heroes of today are not that different than the heroes of the ancient world. They have goals to achieve, obstacles to overcome, and quests to pursue. Their existence is necessary to inspire hope in generations of those struggling to survive and to find meaning in their lives. It could be said that our admiration and devotion to heroes is because we seek something that we can aspire to, whether it be to improve ourselves, to cope with our flaws, or overcome obstacles and succeed. Two examples of great role models, both past and present, for learning how to overcome obstacles and succeed are: Gilgamesh and Superman. During their obstacle-filled journeys of achieving goals, both heroes experience failure and success. In addition, both heroes receive critical help along the way.…

Between the chapters of five and seven, Stoker used many signs to show that Dracula had entered England. One of the more prominent signs was seen in a newspaper clipping from August 8th, about through a storm that had hit a ship near Whitby. The storm set the mood of the chapter to be dark, gloomy and evil and Stoker described it using many literary devices. For instance, before the storm approached:…
