What the land agents had done on the sly was hire three fast runners and cleared paths ahead of them so they could cover a tremendous amount of land in the time the Indians had agreed to. That area was further multiplied when the new boundary lines were drawn from the point where the last man stopped in a northeast direction on over to join the boundary on the Delaware River. Then another boundary line was drawn back down to the beginning point making a huge triangle to include thousands of acres of fertile land. It was approximately the size of Rhode Island. It had been prime, ancestral Indian Territory full of game and had pure mountain streams abounding with fish and beaver.…

I look down for a last time, assessing the shadows the assassin disappeared into. He had gone into what looks like an alley; it was the darkest one where no one stood by, and people who walk past seem to quicken their feet. They probably feared alleys due to a common children’s tale: The Monster in the Alley. The story tells of a monster which stretches out its arms and pulls mortal lives into the never ending blackness. Mothers tell their sons and daughters that unlucky victims would not know what had struck them, until they find themselves ten seconds from…

Each monster has two stories, the story of its creation and real motives for why it was created, and the story of the monster itself. Monsters have been used throughout history to scare people into thinking a certain way or acting a certain way or even simply as a scarecrow dimming down curiosity with fear of death or bodily harm, the monster that Cohen calls the monster of prohibition. Cohen shows that monsters can be a political tool to keep people contained under the heavy hand of government and order, or to discourage exploration that would harm a trade business as the medieval merchants are accused of creating the Leviathan to scare off increased exploration of alternative trade routes.…

I always felt that my insides were too big for my skin. Like any minute my skin would start to separate and let out my organs and my bones, which were dying to escape. I was a water balloon, on the brink of exploding, saturating the hands of whoever was dumb enough to keep filling me, testing my elastic sheath. Other people exaggerate and claim that they can see their heart beating ferociously out of their chests, pushing their skin out like a cartoon when they are scared, or excited, or when they catch Zoe kissing Stan in the back of the video store. Well…fuck those people. Because its not just my heart that I could see trying to escape. It was my lungs, my stomach, hell, sometimes I even saw the forms of chewed potato chips poking out through my throat as gravity and muscle contractions force them to descend to the hell that is my intestines. And it wasn't just when I was scared. It was when I was awake...…
