The Last Ship, Helix And Lost
To put it simply, THE REMAINING is a combination (in genre terms) of The Last Ship, Helix and Lost.

Although the overall series, at surface level, can be seen and classified in the sci-fi/adventure genre. The fact is that the variety of survival stories and the different types of character conflicts that will occur in THE REMAINING, will re-classify the show as a hybrid of genre’s. THE REMAINING is similar to ABC’s TV series Lost, in terms of its survival situations and character conflicts. As well as similar to both The Last Ship and Helix, in terms of their gruesome, violent content and hysteria regarding the virus and its effects. THE REMAINING will mix various of these genre conventions to create a new identity and broaden the audience by not pigeon holding individual genre conventions

It’s a thriller, due to THE REMAINING’s elements of mystery surrounding not only the virus and its origins, but also the other inhabitants of the Antarctic.
It’s an action, due to THE REMAINING’s elements of action packed incidences, such as the characters out running an avalanche with nothing but ski’s attached to their feet.
It’s a character drama, due to THE REMAINING’s elements of romance, betrayal, greed, jealousy, love triangles, social outcasts and alliances that will play out between the characters.

What makes THE REMAINING unique, is that the genre will continuously change as the story progresses. The first half of the season will possess a typical sci-fi/adventure genre feel about the characters fighting for survival in this harsh environment, but as the series progresses and the the crew of McCrudo learn about the true nature of the virus and the potential dangers they might face. It becomes more like a thriller/horror

The mere thought of a virus is already spine-chilling, and Richard Preston manages to write a book intensifying that feeling by tenfold. The character's have interesting backstories and I can definitely see a lot of development happening with them but I just worry that what we'll be seeing on Code Black weekly will just be things that have happened on other shows. Sure, it's a different cast and different surroundings - so elements will be different - but the basic ideas will be roughly the same which doesn't bode well for me, personally. I can't predict what they'll do in future episodes but going off the pilot it just felt like a standard medical drama that fails to deliver any unique qualities.…

As science fiction TV series, Lost and Fringe are both very attractive and interesting because for me and most of the viewers, these TV series offer the viewers a good experience to explore the unknown world. Whenever we are facing something unknown in real world, there will always be a connection of the emotion fear because we don’t know what it will bring to us. In Lost, the fear came from the unknown island and all those wired things may threaten their survival. While in Fringe, the fear came from the mysterious cases. Although the scenes are different, there are still some similarities, which is the unknown is the source of fear. As to viewers, they would easily into these TV series because viewers…
