The Last Day of High School - the First Day of the Rest of My Life
The last day of my high school career is fast approaching and I can only imagine how I'll be feeling when I step out of S.F. Austin's grounds for the very last time. Throughout these four years, I have felt a lot of urgency about graduating high school. I didn't think that the time to graduate would come soon enough. But now, that time is finally nearing. I cannot believe that it has come this fast.

I remember my first days of high school. I was just dying to experience all the new and exciting things that awaited me. From sports to girls to all the partying, I just wanted to know what everything was like. And now that I've done all those things and many more, I am about to embark on a new adventure that will take me to many more new experiences. Some say that "high school was the best time of my life", just like others say that high school was the worst time in their lives. To be honest, I am not sure which category I fall into. I've had plenty of good times, as well as just as many bad times, in high school. The only thing I can say is that I learned. And the most important thing is that, not just that I learned through the books, but I learned about life and the road ahead of me.

From being an inexperienced freshman to a somewhat mature senior, things have really changed for me. I started high school as a brash and cocky athlete, dying to conquer the world, which I did not know much about. I will leave high school as a world-weary senior, knowing that there are many dangers to encounter in the real world. Realistically, I do not know what the world out there holds for me. All I can do is enter it with a guarded optimism and hope for the best.

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. The school was huge and there was not a familiar face in site. Although I was nervous, staff and students did their best to create a positive learning environment. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in…

High school is supposed to be the best years of a teenager’s life and for me it was. The first high school I ever attended was Eldorado high school, home of the Sundevils. The first day of my freshman year I woke up to my mom’s voice that morning, “Get up!” she yelled from my room door. It was the perfect morning, the smell of pancakes and bacon coming from the kitchen and my dad ironing my clothes before he goes to work. The first day of my freshman year was just like any other freshman’s. I walked to each of my classes nervously in those crowded and long hallways but mostly filled with excitement because I knew there was a lot of exciting adventures to come. After the first couple of months I was no longer a random girl that walked the wall ways. Everyone I associated with called me Nayynayy, that nickname stuck with me throughout my whole high school career.…

During my freshman year of high school, I didn’t even know what the Student Government was. I had no idea that, three years later I would be elected as the first one year SGA President (this means I was only in SGA for one year before becoming president, previous presidents have had two years of experience). I started off high school lost and afraid of the world in front of me. Like many students, I struggled to keep myself together mentally and physically. I didn’t really know what I liked or what really interested me. It wasn’t until my junior year that I found something that I connected with. I’ve always been in love with my school and its spirit. Every year I would go all out for spirit week, and I was that one kid that stood out from everyone…

Bursting through the front doors of the school I stride out into the summer sun. The last day of school is cloudless and the sun shines brightly, warming my face and long chestnut hair blowing in the slight summer breeze. The breeze is chilly and the weather isn’t quite hot enough to feel like a real summer but that’s Seattle for you. Turning my new IPod to one of my favorite songs I start toward home, excited. For this is not just any last day of school, this is the last day of my junior year of high school. I am now officially, a senior. I had been dreaming about this summer for so long and I am determined to make it the best one of my life. I start sprinting home grinning till it hurts with Rabbit’s song “It’s Love” blaring…

I was the type of student to do the bare minimum and do whatever it takes just to get by. Going into this senior year I thought it was going to be a breeze but I've been wrong before. This senior year has taught me that if I want to be successful in my life then I need to give it my all just like Jesus commanded us too. This past summer I started to look into colleges I would be interested in playing football for. I found a few schools in Wisconsin that interested me so me and my mother drove 28 hours in a Prius to go visit 4 schools. During the trip I realized that college is closer than it seems. College is not just something we dream of one day but it is the next step in our lives. I am extremely excited for what God holds for me in the future and am ready to face life's challenges. High school is a lot of pressure but we all will look back one day and remember the good times of it. I am very thankful for the people in my life that have made me the man I am today. Finding the right college is going to a hard decision but I know God will put me at the place I need to be an I am very excited wherever that is going to…

I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…

I wanted to try a lot of new things, and I decided that high school is the place to start. I didn't only want to go to this school because of the chance of success, but because of the experience I will gain. The drab thought of not getting into BCTHS would've made me sullen. The thought of high school always scared me until I was told one day that high school is all about what you make it, so I decided to concede my fears. I decided that if you choose not to do the work, you are choosing to be unsuccessful and to be displaced out of the school. If you choose to be out going, thoughtful, respectful, and courageous, it will be everything you hope for. Once I have realized that I was the only thing standing between making or breaking my high school experience, I knew this was where I needed to be to be happy. I decided that there was one school I had to attend to insure that my high school experience would be everything I wanted it to be, and that school was BCTHS. I am now not afraid to attend high school, and I cant wait to embark on this journey with you and all of my other…

The end of 8th grade, the end of middle school, was a scary time for some, myself included. After the summer, I would be in a new building, with new people, teachers, and subjects. It wasn’t going to be a smooth transition for me, being an introvert for the most of my school career. My grades we in a great position, that wasn't an issue. I had always been able to maintain my grades. A large part of that was that I hadn't had internet for the past several years. The issue, however, was that high school was a place where it was pretty much required to be social and to go out of your comfort zone. This is also why I was hesitant to take up an offer that would eventually benefit me throughout my years in high school.…

Growing up we all looked forward to starting high school, but how many of us enjoyed every bit of it? High school was a moment that I looked forward to; thoughts of doing what I finally wanted to flood my mind. In June 2008, I received my GSAT result and was delighted when I saw that I passed for the William Knibb Memorial High School; although a bit disappointed because it wasn’t on my top five list. High school was not everything that I expected. In a few days, I met a few nice people. The first week of school was amazing, but after a few weeks things started getting intense. High school; however, was no bed of roses, especially when it came onto the subjects, reports, and school rules.…

Although it really did fly by, I have enough memories to last a lifetime.…
