I think that the story takes place around the early 19th century. The location is in England, but fantasy location that are in there. The mood of the setting is very dreary and sad; with usual rain. This is significant to the story because this is the type of weather where mystery and monsters love. First of all, he is very brave because in the story two witches are chasing him and he fights against them. Next, Tom is loyal to who he thinks is right. This is shown when Morgan tries to force Tom into getting something for him, he has secretly been ready to give up his life if it meant that the county would be saved, and even though Morgan tried to make Tom betray the spook he was loyal to him… well… somewhat. The last big trait that I think that Tom has is he loves people. Tom, unlike many of the other characters in the story, does not have a cold heart. Tom is in love with the witch Alice and persuaded the spook, not to kill her; also, he tried to save his dad’s soul even though it could be getting him killed.
The two characters Tom and the spook are very prominent in the story are so close and so different from each other. The similarities between them is that Tom and the spook both are very loyal. The spook almost died to save some people, and Tom did the exact same thing when he was going to become a sacrifice and was ready to die for the country. The differences are that the spook does not like showing emotion while Tom is totally fine with expressing himself.
