The Ladies Home Journal Analysis

Humans have roamed the world for thousands of years and their clamoring has yielded an endless storyline. The human storyline is like no other and the narrative is full of intriguing plots and unique characters. These extraordinary tales are not fiction, instead they are original historic events that represent the human race. History chronicles the past, so future generations can study and learn from it, and so it contributes to my philosophy which is “History chronicles the past in hopes of impacting the present and future”. This philosophy of history contains three key elements: an understanding of objectivity, a recognition of the need for a diversity of voices, and a recognition that history is a science.
The philosophy of history examines
History is a broad term and new approaches in history have sparked new avenues of study like social history and feminist history. These approaches were developed out of a need because certain groups in the past went unnoticed and they lacked a place in history. For example, this gave minority groups like women a platform where they could voice their experiences from their own perspectives. The magazine, The Ladies Home Journal, unknowingly documented the journey of women in America. The magazine revealed a progressive trend where the use of household technology prompted a lifestyle change that afforded women the freedom to work outside of the home. As in this case, feminist history showcased the significance of this historic event, but without specific methods of history a women’s view was often overlooked and ignored. Therefore, now the missing pieces of history have a place. For example, Spanish missionaries documented the daily lives of Yucatec Mayan women and this was a rare practice because native women were considered an insignificant minority group. In the past, history was told from the conquerors perspective because they housed all of the power and authority, but social history changed the voice of history. History has given minority groups a platform where the diversity of their voices can be heard and
Historians have a responsibility to represent the all information in a fair and neutral manner, but sometimes historians fail and they attempt to deny distasteful events in history. For example, David Irving made claims that the holocaust never happened, but claims such as these are based on deception and they misrepresent history. David Irving was discredited and it ended his career. In other instances, revisionism is necessary when new discoveries alters events in history, but changes such as these can be problematic when historians ignore or refuse to make the necessary adjustments. Furthermore, new methods in history encourage scholars to think out of the box through inventive and imaginative means that foster questions like “what could have been or what should have of been”, but these methods often ignore facts and lack the concrete evidence to support the “what if” theories. Historians have a difficult and demanding job because they often face unethical situations, but most historians understand the significance of respecting and representing history in an ethical
