Sociology is the study of how individuals act and consists of many theories and concepts. One of those theories is the labeling theory. The labeling theory is illustrated in the movie “Orphan” as well as the concepts of mores, deviance, negative sanctions, personality disorders, and medicalization. In the movie “Orphan” there is a couple named Kate and John Coleman, who lost their third child at birth. Kate took the loss really hard, so they adopted a nine- year- old girl named Esther. Esther is a very bright individual for her age and is very charming. As she gets used to her home, she then begins school. One girl picked on her about how she dressed, so one day while they were on the playground Esther pushed the girl off of a slide. She was hurt badly. Kate soon became worried about Esther, so she does some research on her. She found out that she was not from an orphanage, but she was from a mental hospital. She also found out that Esther suffers from a hormonal disorder called hypopituitarism. This caused her to look like a little child when she really is a thirty- three- year- old woman. I love this sentence because it shows that Kate actually does care for her grandson. This is my favorite sentence in chapter three because it shows that she has to act like she doesn’t care about him. I think it’s because she is scared to be embarrassed by her grandson. What Kate doesn’t know is that Alex loves her too; if she knew this she wouldn’t have to be so harsh and act so tough in front of him.…

After reading act II of “The Miracle Worker,” I realize that I sympathize most with Kate Keller, Helen’s mother. While I have never been in a situation like that, I can very clearly imagine what Kate must be going through. She sees the child as helpless; she thinks there is very little hope for her. In the back of her mind, however, that by bribing her with sweets and giving her what she wants, she is only spoiling her and making matters worse in the long run. Unfortunately, she doesn’t want to say so, and Annie Sullivan knows why.…

It was not the Ryanite way of doing things, to put it quite simply. Venturing forth into the great unknown was one thing, but trying to do so in the sewer passageways and tunnels underneath the surface was another matter. But for the Wise Man and the Godmother, they had a clear and understandable reason as to why they were willing to participate in such an endeavor, even when most would not dare. For those two, they had some legitimate reasons in following the Dewy-Eyed Princess’ lead. In regards to Chandler the Fair, however, he was taken along for the ride, as the Nightingales…
