For most high school students, spring break is a time to go to the beach with your friends or family or just a time to relax away from all of the stress that comes with school. Although lying on the beach with the people that mean the most to me for a week sounds wonderful, I chose to do something different and make a difference in the lives of others during spring break of my sophomore and junior years. Along with thirty other adults and high school students, I traveled to rural locations in the Dominican Republic and spent seven days sharing the gospel and assisting the local churches. While there were some labor-related things that needed to be done, I spent the majority of my time playing with the children at the church, doing anything possible to place a smile on their face. I did not realize it during the trip, but upon returning home and spending my summer around children as well, I learned that I am blessed with a talent when it comes to children, and that I am called to be in a profession involving children, hopefully places smiling on their faces daily.
