The Kings Speech

My opinion on the film “The Kings Speech” was that I found it to be very interesting, the dialogue is understandable and it’s a very touching movie that draws you in from start to finish. “The Kings Speech” is the story of King George, taking place in the mid-1930s, after the death of his father; the throne was passed on to George’s brother, David. But David makes the decision to reject the throne to marry a woman who has been divorced because he loves her and in order to be king you must marry someone who has never been married so he rejected the offer and the obligation fell onto George.

George never wanted to become king and now even less because of his speech impediment he has. Since this was George’s responsibility now, he had to overcome his stuttering as he makes his way to become England’s future king. Afraid of public speaking, he had turned to an Australian speech therapist named Lionel Logue, who convinces King George that his speech impediment can and will be cured if he digs deep enough. Lionel soon becomes the future king’s speech therapist, but not just that, he becomes a friend to him as well.

Once he becomes king he has to face a radio microphone and speak to the world and declare war with everyone especially in the empire listening to his speech with the help of his speech therapist who guides him through his speech as he struggles to get the words out fully which he successfully overcomes. After he becomes king, George facial expression changes and he feels relieved as he realizes how completely his life will change and but immediately gathers is children into his arms. The film ends with the royal family on the balcony, waving to the people and for the first time King George is addressed “your majesty”. At the end of the movie it is noted that George and Lionel remained friends for the rest of their lives.
I felt this film was a very powerful film because not only was it very touching but it was also quite inspiring

    From the very start, George shows his lack of conviction when he says, “When I differ from you, I ought to doubt myself.” (309) However, Editha insists that George to stand true to his beliefs when she says “George, I wish you to believe whatever you think is true, at any and every cost. The correlation that I notice with the use of these phrases is that he is expressing to the public that a change needs to occur for America to create unity and equality for the Blacks to be included in society.
