The Joys of Texting Essay Question
Texting is something that most teenagers and young adults could not live without. Even my parents are texting constantly. My father, especially, because he is usually very busy and cannot answer a call while he is in a meeting. I have to talk to him every day, though, because I love him so much. I miss him while I’m at school, and it is very convenient that if I am randomly thinking of him or my mother while I am in class, I can send them a message letting them know. I can do this without bothering anyone around me and without leaving my classroom, as well.
Being able to text them and my friends helps me keep in touch with them since I can’t be at home to constantly talk with them. My best friend goes to Pearl River Community College, and I never see her anymore. She has soccer and only comes home on the weekends. At first, I planned on calling her and chatting on the phone for a bit every so often, but her roommate got aggravated when we talked to each other late at night. So what do we do? The next best thing- texting. Simply said, texting is an easy way to speak to someone without actually having to speak to them. Although texting is extremely convenient and less time consuming than picking up a phone and calling someone, it can also be disastrous. We all know about texting and driving. This is something that we hear about constantly. Most people do not take it seriously- especially teenagers. My cousin was killed in a car wreck by someone who was texting and driving. This, I believe is the most serious issue with texting and it has affected my life greatly. A less serious downside is how impersonal texting can be. My boyfriend and I have been in many an argument because he assumed my tone was rude or sarcastic simply because you cannot hear the tones and inflections in someone’s voice by just reading their typed words. We can only assume. This is why I would rather call someone in a serious situation. That aspect of texting has definitely made my life more complicated. Texting is a huge part of my life mainly because I do it constantly. I love my parents, I love my friends, and I love my boyfriend. Being able to talk to them and know what they are doing in almost any situation is something I love. I can accomplish this through texting. I, like most teenagers, feel like I could not live without my cell phone. Although it has its negative effects, it also has positive ones, and it plays a large role in most people’s lives in this day and age.

    Cons of Texting

I remember whenever I had something to ask or tell someone I would just give them a ring, now a day it’s just a text here and there. I’ve forgotten what some people’s voices even sound like. Most always I text before I call; from work issues to just contacting my mother and it makes the issues less personal and sometimes can be perceived as less than important. My mother tells me all the time that if the issue was that important I would have called instead of sending a text. Texting also opens the window for anyone to say almost anything, especially things they wouldn’t say not only in person but on the phone. It is easier to say things over text since you can’t see someone’s reactions if it’s something unpleasant or weird, I know from experience that I resort to sending an awkward or unpleasant texting to avoid a face to face talk or even a phone call. I’ve gotten some creepy texts as well from people I know who would never have enough courage to say what they texted to me to my face. Texting can take a 5 minute phone conversation and turn it into an hour ordeal, instead of calling my friend to ask her what she is doing and her plans later, I’ll text instead and the wait for a reply and all the small talk actually turns out to be pretty time consuming. Texting in short is…

    Texting Vs. Calling

There are many similarities and differences in these communication methods. You could point out that both are ways to communicate but texting is way more difficult to tell how someone actually feels since you cannot hear their voice. Texting is the newest and coolest thing to do among young adults. Texting involves seeing a block of information displayed that just gets straight to the point. It allows the exact message to be sent clearly to the other person. No distractions, poor reception, or loud noises will cause for message misinterpretation as long as you say what you want to say in a clear and understandable way. It’s also a lot cheaper to send a text than make a phone call. What I really hate about texting is when someone is trying to have a full conversation with you via text message when they could just pick up the phone. Texting is better when you are at work or home and want to have a fun light conversation with a friend about nothing. And there are a gazillion things that you can do with texting that you can’t really do over the phone. For instance you can send those silly emoji’s and pictures, video clips and screenshots. Besides basic efficiency, one of the reasons behind the method that is texting is the preferred means of communication through texting is privacy. Nobody can really know exactly what you’re up to because you can’t hear the person’s conversation. Texting is really good when you don’t want to hear a person voice or make too much effort in a conversation.…
