* The story takes place in Paris. * Mr. Lantin * Monsier Lantin the chief clerk of the department of the interior. Enjoyed a sung Little salary of three thousand five hundred francs. * Mr. Lantin meet his wife at reception at the house of the second head of his department and had fallen head over heels in love with her. * Mr. Lantin wife governed his household with such clever economy that seemed to live in luxury. She lavished the most delicate attentions on her husband. * Six years after marriage. Monsier Lantin discovered that he loved his wife even more than during the first day of their honeymoon. * He found fault with only two of her tastes 1- Her love for theatre 2- Her test for imitation jewelry. * She fond of Jewelry. It is her only weakness. * In winter his wife want to opera and come back home chilled through and through and coughed and eight days later she died of the inflammation of the lungs. (pneumonia) * Mr. Lantin's despair was so great that his hair became white in one month. His heart broken as he remembered her smile, her voice. * Everything in his wife's room remained as it was during her lifetime. * This is sad ending of the first story. * Mr. Lantin was unable to continue living comfortable on his income. This is the first warning sign that struck the readers and got the readers to think about Mr. Lantin wife. * Broke in depts. Mr. Lantin find no other alternative but to sell his wife fake Jewelry. He decided to sell the heavy Necklace * He thought must to be worth about six or seven francs. * The Jeweler told him that the necklace is worth between twelve to fifteen thousand francs. * The next store the Jeweler confirms that the necklace is real by telling him that it was sold from his store for twenty thousand francs, and would buy it for eighteen thousand. * A horrible doubt entered his mind…..? then all
