The Intricacies In Episode 4 Of Serial
In Episode 4 of Serial, there are many inconsistencies within the stories that are testified. Jay is very unclear and indecisive. Jen, a new person who testifies, is also unclear, and is suddenly the missing piece everyone has been looking for in the case. She brings more evidence, and does not seem to have helped much. There are many inconsistencies in this episode, and there are still many missing pieces to be found, and explained. One larger inconsistency is the changing of Jay’s story. Jay has many different parts of his story, and in every interview they seem to change. In his first interview he told the police that he first seen Hae’s dead body at a strip. In the second interview, Jay claims to have seen the body first at Best Buy. He claims to have lied about that because he was worried about cameras at Best Buy. Jay said if he had kept his story about seeing the body at Best Buy, they would have checked the cameras, but would that not have helped him? If Jay was in fact telling the truth, and had nothing to do with Hae’s killing, then the cameras would have helped him. This was one testimony that was important, and hard to determine whether it was the truth or not. …show more content…
At first, he claimed to have only helped Adnan bury Hae’s body. He said he did not help with the murder at all, but just the burial. When asked again, Jay said he did not do anything at all. He claimed to have only seen the body, but did not help bury it. Jen also said this, and confirmed that Jay claimed to have not help at all. Did Jay change his story to match Jen’s story, or was it the actual truth? If Jay actually did not bury her, then why would he say he did help in the first place? He also said that he thought all of this was wrong, but did not take any action to inform the police. Make sense? No. Involvement of the burial was all jumbled up, and nobody could seem to figure it

Police coaching is also believed to have taken place during the questioning of Jay. Within the police files, there is a document labeled ‘Jays Crinology’ and a few maps that show where cell towers are located and pinged throughout the day of the event. The document referring to what Jay’s activities is a numbered list with twenty four events that took place on the day of Hae’s disappearance. It is believed that the police were helping Jay remember the points on that list by reminding him about details that he forgot about. For example, detective McGillivray sighs of exasperation and points out that Jay and Adnan have both Hae’s car and Adnan’s car at one point in time, and Jay forgets about the detail of still having both cars. Jay says, “We…

Although John Mark Karr falsely admitted to the murder of Jon Benet in 2006, the case is still unsolved. Recently on January 28, 2013, the Grand Jury has reason to believe that John Ramsey, since Patsy died in 2006 from cancer, should be indicted for the death of Jon Benet. They believe with new technology that they will be able to use the evidence already gathered to charge him with child abuse resulting in death. Believing otherwise, District Attorney, Alex Hunter, refuses to sign the Grand Jury’s decision saying there is a lack of proof to indict John Ramsey.…

The reason the other side believes Adnan is guilty is because of one person; no, not Adnan himself; Jay, who says Adnan told him he was going to kill Hae. More importantly, Jay himself says that Adnan showed Hae’s body to him, as put: “I noticed that Hae wasn't with him. I parked next to him. He asked me to get out the car. I get out the car. He asks me, am I ready for this? And I say, ready for what?” And he takes the keys. He opens the trunk. And all I can see is Hae's lips are all blue, and she's pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she's dead.” (Episode I, Page 10). Jay is claiming to have been shown the body of Hae, and he is placing Adnan at the very scene of the crime. How believable is Jay, because according to Sarah and Bill Ritz, Jay’s story repeatedly keeps on changing. Sarah explains to the audience, “I put it to Bill Ritz when I talked to him briefly on the phone. Jay's story kept changing. You were catching the inconsistencies and he was having to explain them and clean up his story. So what ultimately made you believe him? Ritz said they believed Jay's story because “we were able to investigate and corroborate what he was saying.” (Episode 4, Page 68). Jay’s inaccuracies are either due the the fact that he…

The defendant claimed that the eye witness evidence was enough, but there is no real physical proof. No blood on the boy, no fingerprints, nothing. There is only circumstantial evidence, which even that is plausible. The boy very well could have been, and was, at the movie theater. They also claim he had a motive, but even if he did he was not the only one. The boy’s father was a rude, insensitive man. He got into bar fights often. Any number of people could have wanted to kill him. (Rose 24, 16)…
