The Informant's From Wardle
The writings I’ve worked on for the Research Problem have helped me towards achieving course learning outcome number 1: “Produce writing that demonstrates your ability to identify, describe, and analyze various occasions for writing, genres, conventions, and audiences in your discipline or profession from a rhetorical perspective.”

From Merriam, I learned the ideal way to record any interview. This method includes a combination of utilizing tape-like hardware and writing down notes, which allows verbatim transcription of the interviewee’s responses via the tape like hardware and notation about the interviewee’s tone, pacing and the reactions of the interviewee to questions. Although, the qualitative data obtained can be influenced by the “informant’s

Keeping Wardle’s argument in mind, individuals who hold expert knowledge and are expert members of my discourse community, i.e. not novices, were selected. Wardle defines authority as “an intangible quality granted to persons through institutions, which renders their pronouncements as accepted…but which must be maintained through individuals’ speech and actions” (Wardle 5). I selected experts who have authority in my discourse community; those who represent the identity of said discourse community. For these reasons, I chose to interview Dr. Gregory Adami and Dr. Wolfgang …show more content…
Merriam says that the goal of data analysis is to make meaning and sense out of the complex data. Ultimately, the data analysis should bring the researcher the findings, i.e. the answers to research questions, via a step wise process used in the coding process (Merriam 177). I used this process of analytical coding, category construction, category naming and organization to codes for my Data collection report and genre analysis. The data filed under these different codes gives answers to research questions for my extended writing project.

The aforementioned learnings and accomplishments are vital to my achievement of learning outcome number 2. I am most proud of my ability to demonstrate, through the writings I’ve worked on in the Data Collection Report, understanding of my discourse community’s genres, using information interesting to the writing studies scholarship. I would like to improve on communicating my message better in my writing. This improvement can be easily achieved through utilizing a simpler vocabulary, using singular reasoning and applying a greater attention to detail with my writing structure for each

Based on the feedback given, the strengths identified are the ability to cover all points required in a paper and to write in a manner where all sections flow logically from one to the other for one to be able to read with ease. The common issue in the area of weaknesses seem to be the lack of support when speaking on a topic, there is also a consistent issue with APA style writing, namely the repeated lack of placing the first header correctly – this should be the title of the paper, and indenting of bibliography or references.…

Writing three different types of papers helped me to improve my Rhetorical Knowledge. In my past I have written many research papers, however, I have little experience writing personal narratives or rhetorical analysis papers. This class gave me the opportunity to practice both forms of writing. I feel more confident writing a personal narrative or rhetorical analysis than I previously did. I also understand different rhetorical situations, which is critical in developing a strong paper.…

After a year of focused work in English 250, I feel that I have developed the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in multiple ways. My strengths as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the material we had this semester. We discussed several different aspects of the English language and spent a good amount of time this semester perfecting our ability to write rhetorical analyses. Doing so allowed us to focus a lot of our time on the WOVE method of communication and become better communicators.…

Two years ago, I would say nothing in particular provokes me about writing. I would rather spend my valuable time on presentations or discussions than writing research papers. I always found myself was lost. I couldn’t focus on the content of my prompt. I failed to make my words convincing and authoritative. I am not a good researcher, also not an outstanding rhetorical writer, even today, but I did find something valuable on myself in these two years.…

Sandra has a very positive attitude towards improving her writing skills; she has made very pleasing progress throughout the year. Sandra is currently writing at the expected level for year six students. To begin, I have learned quite a bit of information in this first module. Two of the most important things that I have learned include being able to write a summary correctly and learning what style is in writing. The consequences of learning these two important concepts is that I have become much more confident in my writing skills, whether it be writing a 1,000-word paper, or summarizing a narrative or research paper.…

As I am approaching graduation after five long years of college, it is hard to believe that English 200 was my first English class of my college career. I have concluded that during my four writings that there have been three areas that I needed and have improved on during this semester. Over the course of these few months, it has become apparent that my writing skills have improved in the areas of finding the appropriate target audience, finding new language to use in persuasive essays, and finally the way to format a works cited page.…

I never have been confident with my writing skills. Although I have received above average grades in past writing courses, I have never been confident in the way I present my ideas on paper. The writing courses based on literary text that I have taken thus far at the college level have seemed to be an extension of high school in that they only have dealt with proper writing structure, such as MLA format. Introduction to Comparative Literature however has analyzed text in a far deeper manner than I have ever been accustomed to. The course has enabled me to see how the structure, themes, style, and mood of a text work as a cohesive whole. I have had the opportunity to use the information gathered on these elements and utilize them to develop my own writing voice.…
