The Influence Of Stereotypes

Mehmet Murat Ildan, a contemporary playwright, novelist and thinker, once said that “When you do something different, you are either blessed or cursed!” This is a true statement, yet it is also false. It is true that doing something different can cause you to be only blessed or cursed; however, it is also more often than not that you can be both blessed and cursed which is the case for many individuals and races nationwide. Many individuals are both cursed and blessed when it comes to doing something different or even just being different in general. For example, Eleanor Longden was a young woman with schizophrenia. Anyone of a different race that is doing something different is bound to give anyone a vast amount of both blessings and curses. Think of Asians in terms of Americans. To most Americans, Asians are considered strange and are often looked towards with confusion and sometimes even disgust for the way they are and for the way they generally act - different. Stereotypes play a fairly large role in this because when people think of Asians they have a tendency to think of chopsticks, raw fish, squid, and other things of the sort when in reality, Asians also have spoons, forks, knives, pork, beef, and fried food. Stereotypes are made because people are considered different. I personally used to default to those stereotypes before I started looking more into the culture. Those who don’t understand this fact will usually curse those of a different race because of the fact that they act differently while those who do have a true understanding as to why these different races act and do things differently tend to bless them for their cultural
