When a mother brings a child home from the hospital the thought of something being wrong with the baby is the last thing on her mind. When she tries to communicate with her child and there is limited eye to eye contact, or it seems as if the child is in its own world, the child might be suffering from Autism. “Dr. Kanner gave a careful description of the unusual behaviors in the first cases exhibited in the nineteen forties. For example, he mentioned that these children exhibited ‘resistance to change’ (Volkmar, F.R., Wiesner, L.A 2009)”. These children live in a world where they are content being alone and have no desire to communicate with the parents. Since there are no known test to determine if a child has Autism there are ways that the doctor can diagnosis a child. These test can determine the severity of this neurological and developmental disorder by looking at the child’s development and behavior. A child that show signs of poor eye contact, inappropriate social interaction, self-harm, compulsive behavior and persistent repletion of words or actions are diagnosed with Autism. The child will have a hard time communicating with parents making it difficult to express any feelings that they have and the child basically lives in a world where they isolate themselves because it is more comfortable for them to deal with this
