The Industrial Revolution: Nikola Tesla's Induction Motor
intro
Electric motors are a part of almost everything we use, refrigerators, washing machines, ceiling fans, computer hard drives, and almost every other appliance and electronic device we use today.Electric motors were made practical and affordable by Nikola Tesla and his induction motor. Before Tesla invented the induction motor was the dc motor that was impractical because it required two electric supplies for just one motor and expensive to make because it required rare materials on the other hand the induction motor needs but one power supply and can be made with inexpensive materials.

The induction motor is powered by alternating current (AC) Tesla was one of the first to discover AC. He believed that it was better than direct current

By slapping a motor on to something people used to make by hand things got made faster and cheaper. Tesla’s AC induction motors were used to make all types of machines that were used to make all types of products.

Tesla patented his induction motor in 1888. George Westinghouse, a super rich owner of an electric company, heard Tesla give a speech about his induction motor in Pittsburgh. After the speech he offered Tesla $1,000,000 for his induction motor patent and 39 of Tesla’s other patented inventions. The amount he was offered was the modern equivalent of about

This way of doing things did pose problems because tesla was the only person who could make the machine because he was the only one with the design in his head. This would then mean that he would have to take extra time to write the designs and dimensions down onto paper. This never really posed a problem though because Tesla knew that in order to obtain patents he would have to have copies of the invention and its dimensions in front of the committee who decides whether or not to give him the

The astonishing inventor, Nikola Tesla, who moved to the U.S.A. in 1844, is thought of a standout amongst the most essential and generally ignored innovators ever. He lost the spotlight over and over in the nineteenth century to Thomas Edison. As a result, the competition with Edison morphed into a standout amongst the most epic combats of electric currents. He initially exhibited the remote control in 1898, when he exhibited a radio-regulated boat. Also, Tesla's remote-controlled boat is recognized to be one of the first robots. In addition, he has been called "the…

When Tesla came to America in 1884 from Paris, the United States was powering homes and businesses with direct current electricity. DC power was severely limited and could only run a mile before another power station had to be built to reenergize the lines that ran overhead. To combat the inefficiency of Thomas Edison’s DC power, Tesla eventually created alternating current.…

Edison hired Tesla and very soon after the two would work nonstop to improve Edison's inventions. Several months later the two parted ways due to a conflicting business- scientific relationship. In 1885 Tesla, received funding for the Tesla Electric Company. Tesla designed the alternating current (AC) electric system, which quickly became the leading power system of the 20th century. At the end of the 19th century, Tesla patents the “Tesla coil which laid the foundation for wireless…

Thomas Edison and whomever the other scientists and inventors are that came up with this invention had a real winner. There are rumors said that Edison did not create the invention and that he hired Nikola Tesla. The reasoning of why this is found hard to believe is because it states that Edison hired Tesla to redesign his electrical generators. After Tesla did so, he charged Edison 50,000 dollars in which Edison told him he must not understand American humor and paid Tesla in middle fingers. If you put your mind to something, even if it is a confused,…

Did you know that you probably used an electric motor today? Yes, that's right. If you put on clothes that were washed in a washing machine, rode in a car, ate food from a fridge, warmed up lunch in a microwave, or played a video game, you used an electric motor! Try this science fair project and you'll learn how to make a simple electric motor by having two magnets "talk" to each other. As they interact, they will alternate between "liking" each other (being pulled together), and "disliking" each other (pushing away from one another). All that pushing and pulling will create some serious spinning, and you will have built an electric motor!…

Furthermore, Tesla utilized the funding provided to develop an induction motor that used alternating current as power. His eidetic memory and genius mind helped him formulate a working alternating current system whose power could run the engine. At the time, various companies in Europe and the United States had commenced utilizing alternating current systems. Significantly, the alternating current power systems were reliable in the transmission of high voltage power over long distances. In such a way, the effectiveness of the system made it famous in the given…

He began his work in 1844 working under Thomas Edison. Soon after he struck out on his own with financial backing and set up his own laboratories and companies developing a wide range of electrical devices. The most prominent being his alternating current (AC) transformer which was licensed by George Westinghouse. The AC transformer would be the winner in the “current wars” that went on with Thomas Edison. In 1893 Tesla powered the Worlds Fair in Chicago beating Edison with his safe and more practical electrical current. By 1900 Tesla was regarded as the world’s greatest electrical engineer.…

Tesla did not initially study engineering in his college career. Instead, he studies physics and mathematics, aiming to become a professor like his uncle Josif. His school had recently purchased a Gramme Dynamo, which his physics professor used to teach his class about electric currents. This is what sparked Nikola Tesla’s interest to study engineering. However, he began carousing during his second year of college, and this led to skipping lectures altogether during his third year. This caused his school to cancel his scholarship and he was thrown out of college for…
