The Importance Of Water Pollution In The United States
In the United States, there is about forty-five percent of the streams, forty-seven percent in lakes and thirty-two percent bays that have water pollution (Hearn, 2010). Not only that the another upsetting part is that forty percent of the USA’s rivers have water population they are not able to be considered decent for people to fish in. If you can fish in, it also implies that we are not able to do any swimming in the waters. Which also means there is not many living things in the water to fish or any aquatic life.

    The water of the UHigh Creek is excellent, however some creeks have been polluted and overall have a worse water quality. There are a few different ways a pond or creek can become polluted. One type of pollution caused by humans is Eutrophication, which starts when farmers put fertilizers on their crops. The fertilizer can be washed off from the rain and can carry it to a nearby stream or lake. The nitrates and phosphates that are being put in the water fertilize algae and cause its population to grow. (Lenntech 1998-) When the algae dies and gets eaten by bacteria the bacteria will use up the oxygen causing the oxygen levels to go down the fish in the water will die. Another type of pollution that can affect our water is acid rain. This is when gases and fossils after being burned go into the sky and enter our precipitation cycle. When the gases mix with our water it creates this acidic rain. When this type of rain falls back down on us it can find its way into streams, river, lakes and ponds.
