The research problem that is being explored is how to prevent infections in people who use long term indwelling urinary catheters. As patients get injured or as they age; there is a growing need to have assistance with releasing urine from the bladder. A major problem with urinary catheters is that whilst they drain the bladder, they often block the urethra and the urinary mucosa becomes inflamed, and may become damaged because of the catheter (Traunter & Darouiche, 2004). Catheter associated infections are a prevailing issue because it is best practice to reduce the costs of infections, while implementing quality and safe practices.…

An argument is a means to a solution. Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs shows readers how best to win an argument with 28 concepts. I have found it amazing that through the duration of this course that I have confirmed what I know. That I need to be challenged, I am performance driven and wish to be well resourced. 3. Know the three things that arguments do. 1. We develop arguments when we want to persuade. 2. We develop arguments to justify our positions on issues, learn new things. 3. We use arguments as a means of inquiry.* not just logic but our beliefs, values and commitments.…
Reasoning and Argumentation 101 with Professor Fields touched on and developed many skills that can be used in daily life when interacting with others and their diverse opinions and views. Throughout my daily conversations I would often find myself noticing fallacies I had learned from reading the book and my notes in others’ arguments and opinions. While I was not the most vocal in the class, I do believe that I applied the lectures to my everyday life more than others. As a result, I gained many valuable skills for evaluating arguments which brings me a form of entertainment when someone says something that has no logic when given deeper thought. Additionally, social media is trying to lure in its viewers with ads using the power of manipulation more than ever. However, the class has taught me to see through the tricks of social media and evaluate the ads. One of my favorite class homework assignments was evaluating an ad because the deeper meanings…
Yes, I believe argumentation is beneficial. It’s very different than a one on one, where the ultimate goal is to be the winner. An effective argumentation, helps a group understand more than one viewpoint and helps them make more informed decisions. Sorry, to hear the person on social media was more interested in calling people stupid, then he was in being informed of his own mistakes.…

What are your future goals for changing your critical thinking and reasoning skills as a result of what you have learned in this course?…

As for my constructive argument essays, developing a good argument has been challenging for me, but yet I hope to get better in constructing those arguments. In getting an idea for the argument that you want to make is easy, but putting in words that make sense to the person that is reading your essay is difficult, in my own perspective. Constructing arguments depends on the kind of subject you want to talk about and how much evidence you have that you find useful in supporting your…
Finally the last thing I learned in english for this semester was how to debate. In the debate we did in class, I learned the process of a debate. We took about two weeks doing search for our argument both affirmative and negative. We also did an actual debate in class like we argued and we did everything that would happen in a real debate. This was something I’m glad we learned because I actually wanted to be a lawyer but not any more because I noticed that it’s a lot of work. At the end I have had the experience of a debate and probably in the future they’ll be…
The argumentative essay was the first of its kind for me. I was new to the concept of having sources for an essay. It was to be written on a topic of my choosing. It was to be comprised of three arguments and a rebuttal. I had to do research and source this research. I was good at finding the information that I needed to back up my argument. However, I was not good at putting that information into a usable form in my essay. One way that essay has helped me grow as a writer was by introducing me to a whole new form of writing. I now can write an argumentative paper that has factual…
I am more into being creative with my writing skills, but argumentative writing helps get my point across more effectively. I am starting to remember how much I enjoy writing. Peer Groups comments helped with my difficult to understand religious topic for those who were not religious.…
