2. I will incorporate ergonomics while maintaining comfort and safety for Mrs. Washington while positioning her or transferring her by making sure that I have enough people to help to ensure she won’t have to do anything past her physical ability, preparing any assistive devices if needed, perform hand hygiene before and after I come in contact with her, give her privacy, lock the wheels on the bed and raise the railing on the opposite side of the bed, and once she is moved I will ask her to determine her comfort and will reposition her if needed.
3. Before getting Mrs. Washington out of bed I will perform hand hygiene and explain to her what I will be doing before I come in contact with her. I will then ensure that the wheels are locked, I will have enough staff to help me if needed, and put the rail up on the opposite side of the bed to ensure her safety. I will teach her how to safely use a cane by telling her to hold it with her strongest hand for maximum support. Put the tip about 6 inches in front and 6 inches to the side of her allowing her elbow to be slightly flexed. She should move her cane about 1 foot forward then move her weak leg forward while her weight is on the cane and the stronger leg. She should then move her strong leg forward in front of her cane, shifting the weight to her cane and her weak leg. There should always be at least two points on the floor at all times. To use a walker she will need to move it about 6 inches ahead following with her weak foot so that all of her weight is on her stronger leg, then she should move her strong leg while putting the weight on her arms and her weak
