The Importance Of Pursuing A Career In Physical Therapy
Introduction

A short time ago, my teacher Mrs. Pennington presented to our class that we would be doing a research project on a career of our choice that was in our skillset. I feel like this would be a great opportunity for me to explore more about myself and potential career options in my future. I plan to receive a job according to my skill set and something that I would be interested in for this project. A goal I have is to learn more about myself than I had known before I had begun this project. My second goal is to do the best that I am capable of in this project and to present my skills to the world. I would like to do something that has to do with health and the well being of other people. I desire to do the best of my ability in the

I met my goals for my assignment by me finding a career that I am interested in and it is something that I want to do in the future for my career. Through this process I learned a lot about myself, including that I would be most interested in going into the field of Health Science and help people by doing the best of my ability to make someone else better rather than just myself. I liked tons of stuff through this process with cfnc.org and finding careers that match my skill set, just looking at the endless amount of careers was fun and it was almost impossible to choose one. The most challenging thing about this project was having to pick a career because the possibilities were endless and it was a very hard to pick one career, but I am very happy with the career that I choose and would love to be a Physical Therapist for my career when I am an

Those in the healthcare profession are respected, hardworking individuals who went above and beyond to prove themselves capable of helping others in the greatest way possible. My career goals are very straightforward. I’ve taken several steps in high school to accomplish these goals by being well disciplined in my studies, and participating in a Health Careers Internship Program. This program offers me a variety of opportunities that make me a more applicable in a healthcare setting. I’ve learned how to build a strong résumé and cover letter, and how do professional interviews well. We also get the chance to observe and participate in a medical environment. I’ll be shadowing with Dr. Steve Carr at Northern Star Therapy and learn the basics of physical therapy. I’ve done also done volunteer work in a Geriatric setting, at the St. Benedict nursing home in St. Cloud. My plans following high school are to attend the University of Minnesota in the College of Biological Sciences. My hopes are to complete my undergraduate in there in the Pre-Medicine program, attend graduate school, and specialize in a currently undecided field of…

I knew that I would probably go to college some where in state, come back to our little town and work as a nurse or in an office like my mom or nana. My computer teacher had us go on a website and answer a couple of questions to see what my range of my possibilities is, and of course one of the first ones was a nurse and human resources. Then I started looking deeper into the possibilities I had. The two I found most interesting were Epidemiology and Sociology. Both sounded very intriguing and in both professions I would be able to help people. I started to look at epidemiology, I noticed that if I would work really hard at it I would be able to work at the CDC (Center for Disease Control). It looked very interesting and the job outlook is very high. So my chances of getting a job is very likely. But as I looked for jobs at the CDC there was next to nothing. I still decided to do the presentation on it though. The presentation was very fun but presenting was a little scary. As the year progressed though I learned that in order for me to be able to become an epidemiologist I would have to enter an internship for at least a year then work my way up from a small college lab to the CDC. I would not end up in my dream work space until I am about thirty five to forty years old. So I started looking into sociology, and became very…

My initial motivation was to study medicine. However, this novelty of an idea wore off as I have learned that the road to success and pursuit of happiness in life is not necessarily a straight one. This has encouraged me to follow my heart no matter how daunting the journey can be. William James once said “the greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being has the power to alter his life by his attitude”. It is deeply rooted in this philosophy that I desire to become a physician assistant (PA) where I hope to provide quality healthcare to the underprivileged, an area of medicine, which I have noticed to be dramatically underserved.…

While the word `professionalism' usually refers simply to the quality of being professional, in truth it does not describe a single quality, but rather encompasses many different attributes that together define what a professional is. Throughout my experiences in various physical therapy settings, I was fortunate enough to observe therapists who have not only served as my role models, but have also taught me what professionalism really means. Not only excelling in their duties as physical therapists, every person I've been lucky enough to work with has been kind, accountable, and extremely committed, all of which are traits I have tried to emulate in my work as a volunteer and physical therapy technician. While I observed various displays of professionalism in different physical therapy…

“Get off the couch and stop looking at a television screen” is what I tell my three younger siblings everyday. As the older brother, I take responsibility for my siblings’ health and well-being. Instead of playing sports, my siblings prefer staying indoors texting on their phones or playing video games. It concerns me that not only my siblings but also children and even adults nowadays are not motivated enough to get outside, exercise, or participate in physical activities. Coincidentally, pushing my ideals about health and exercise on my younger brothers and sister would eventually shape my career path in physical therapy. I prefer a career that requires being active and working with people on a daily basis than having a desk job and staring…

The ability to walk and move freely is something I think many people take for granted. Most people do not have to think about when to take a step or how to turn their head, they just do it; yet some people are never blessed with this ability, and still many others may lose this in a mere matter of seconds. However, this is why I am so happy to live in the world that we live in; a world where scientists, researchers, and doctors refuse to accept that a diagnosis is final. Restoring movement to a patient who has lost it can enable them to more fully enjoy all that life has to offer. The role of physical therapists is integral in assuring patients that there is a reason to hope. The process of rehabilitation is very slow and sometimes painful,…

Thinking of the future and deciding on a career field is very stressful for students. It is very rare that a student knows what they want to study and the occupation that they want to enter. These students often spend thousands of dollars and several years of their lives at a university, trying to find something that interests them. Eventually, they may settle with a business major, a communications major, or a history major. Fortunately, I am not a student who is in this type of situation. For the last two summers, I have volunteered my time and assisted with making patient’s stays at Wayne Memorial Hospital a pleasant experience. By interacting with the nurses and seeing the impact made on each person, I realized that I should study nursing…
