The Importance of Good Character
Why is character important? Why is it important to be a person of good morals, ethics, and character? Can that make you more productive in life, family, school, business, work, etc. ?
Well, good moral, ethics, and character has NEVER hurt anyone.
President Abraham Lincoln once said, "Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree." To many, this quote means that Character is like a tree which bears the shadow of their reputation whether it be good or bad.
"I have no regrets in my life. I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build character, making you a much stronger person." - Rita Moreno
As seen in these quotes, character is important, and it determines your reputation in life. It is also a 'thing' that is built up when you go through something in your life. Character determines the success that you can or cannot (will or will not) receive and/or attain in your lifetime. How would you be able to figure out the traits of what a good character looks like? You'd have to know this in order to have one right? Of course!! According to The Character Training Institute, there are 49 specific, definite, character qualities that YOU need to have a good/positive character. (Go to: http://www.character-training.com/blog/list-of-character-traits/ to see the 49 traits of good character).
Good character is something that is LACKING in today's society. I wonder why?
Could it be that youth today are 'empowered' to do whatsoever they choose, so they have no guidance ? Could it be that the 'laws' of today are set up to make people fail in life, relationships, communication, school, business, etc. ? Proverbs 29: 15 says, The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother. (NIV) (c)1984 (Also brings disgrace to his/her father). I didn't write it.... It's in the Bible! It doesn't matter who or what you believe in, all that matters is that this is the truth!

The British naturalist and politician John Lubbock wrote, “Your character will be what you yourself choose to make it.” I agree with John Lubbock, because I believe we choose our character traits. We make decisions in our lives, some life changing decisions, some small irrelevant decisions, that could change our minds according to how we process our choices. Our personality affects our character heavily, our personality tells one everything about us. Our character is also affected by our ability to perceive things positively or negatively. I believe that we chose our character traits by the decisions that we make, our personality, and our ability to perceive things in a positive or a negative way.…

My character has always been an important concept within my life. This is because character is comprised of honesty, selflessness, and compassion. No matter what the situation is, it has always been imperative to me to be honest with not just those around me, but with myself. For example, I once noticed that an instructor had given me a higher grade than I deserved on a quiz, I never hesitated to report the mistake and made sure that my work was graded…

Individuals that possess Character ethical perspectives tend to base their ethics on "what it is good to be rather than good to do." When judging another person's actions, he or she will look for ethical behavior based on their character. In this perspective, the character of a person is more important than their actions. "This category is most likely aligned in philosophy with the virtue theory." Qualities values in this category are wisdom, honesty and integrity. Demonstrating these qualities for those in the Character category are more important than following the rules. This perspective also believes that individuals are incapable of ethical behavior and choosing between right or wrong, without possessing good character.…

When most people think of character they often associate it with the idea of having to do the right thing. I on the other hand believe character is more than just doing what is morally righteous. Our experiences, obstacles and most importantly, passion define our true character. Passion establishes the difference between obligation or choice and giving up or persevering. Our actions result from the passion we choose to dedicate towards different aspects of our lives including school, work, extracurricular activities and community service. Everyone values these aspects differently and that is what allows for each of us to have our own unique character. I believe people have a more powerful influence when they have a true sense of passion for what they are doing.…

Character plays a role in who I am and who I seek to be. My parents taught me to be obedient and listen to others. At first, I thought being obedient means to follow rules so you would not get in trouble. In school, I would be the student who always followed the rules: no talking when the teachers talking, clean up after yourself, and finish your work at the proper time. Every year from kindergarten to middle school, I would get recognition…

Character in the Webster’s dictionary is defined as the way someone thinks, feels, and behaves: someone’s personality. Character is the main component in each and every and every living being here on earth. Your character is what can make you or break you. It can carry you to success or take you straight to failure. Because character is so important, JROTC instructors try their best to instill certain morals and values that will give us a character that will take us to success. For example, by making us stand at the position of attention and if we move we have to do push-ups teaches us discipline which is well-needed in any work field. Good character is paramount to induce sound judgment and fundamental leadership aptitude. Therefore after lessons about good character, lessons about leadership skills come next.…

A person of character is, someone to admire, who sets a good example, who knows the difference between right and wrong. To me no one is good or bad. This is a fact that should be kept in mind when we try to judge a person's overall character. We are all different and complex. I think I show most of the elements a person of good character should show. Not only have I been looked up to and admired, but I try to keep as active as possible (a quality younger students may look up to). Joining different sports, excelling in academics, and joining other extracurricular activities, gives me this opportunity and also demonstrates my reliability. Like a person with a good character I like to help anyone that is in need of a little guidance. I've always been known to make people laugh or feel better when they are down, which seems to me like a person with a great character, and want to better life's sometimes harsh obstacles.…

My character is a main pillar of what I am today. I work and try very hard in school but as the same time I have fun. I take full responsibility for my actions and I always think before act or say anything. When I got a puppy, my parent told me that it was going to be a big responsibly. I knew having a dog meant having a lot of responsibly and I knew I could handle caring for my dog. Everyday I change his water, walking him twice a day, play with him, and bath him once in a while. I enroll my self in to many extracurricular activities. I play many sports such as soccer, track and field and lacrosse. Sports are a very important part of my life. It keeps me together and in line. I feel that character is a large part of life. Luckily, I have two parents that have taught me my morals. Unfortunately, not everyone has had these instilled in their lives. Whenever I get a chance I make sure to help and show other people mine. When my friends are mean to others in school I tell them to treat others how you would like to be treated. As a student of High School I have noticed that there is a lot of bullying, whether by race, religion, ability to learn, or what “group” you are part of. I think this all needs to stop, even though some people may think it’s impossible to stop bullying from happening, I think it is…

Characters play a big role in a story. As well as they all have flaws. For example, the narrator’s weakness is her boyfriend, Raheem.
