Throughout the semester, we have watched many films that relates to chapters in our book, the film that I chose is Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond, Episode 1: Out of Eden. This film illustrates and attains the answer to why some societies and regions like Eurasia and the Americans thrived meanwhile countries like New Guinea did not. Jared Diamond, who is a professor, biologist by training, and specializes in human physiology studied birds in New Guinea. During his quest, he also came upon, why the New Guineans were so much poorer than other people, as he was asked the question, “Why do you white men have so much cargo, while we New Guineans have so little”, cargo referring to material goods brought by westerners.
