The Importance Of Belonging In The Marines

Nationwide, high school seniors are so busy struggling through exams that they never ask themselves what they intend to do once they actually do graduate. I , on the other hand, know exactly what I plan on doing after high school. I plan on enlisting into the Marines for reasons involving a sense of belonging or brotherhood, a sense of purpose, and to have some sense of order in my life. First, I plan on enlisting into the Marines to get a sense of belonging that i’ve gotten almost nowhere else. The Marines are strict on the saying “no man left behind”. To me this has a certain attractiveness because regardless of it being my fault, i’ve let down everyone that i’ve ever met. Being in a brotherhood ,not of flesh and blood but of love and respect, is highly appealing to me, which is why this is one of the reasons i’m enlisting.
I would like to wake up everyday knowing this needs to be done and i’m one of the few that can do it. I’ve never felt like i’ve been useful for much of anything, my profound lethargy probably doesn’t help with that. Being part of a brotherhood where each and every person is part of a well-oiled machine and if even one part of that machine starts to break, the entire machine breaks while highly stressful is quite attractive because it forces me to push harder and farther for those around me. I’ve never woken up and felt like what I did that day would amount to anything, I strongly believe that enlisting in the Marines will finally give me this sense of purpose that i’ve longed
