Jaguar Athletics Training Students

I have background of being an athletic trainer. At berry middle school, I was a water girl for the football team. It wasn’t anything special , or important, but it showed me that being an athletic trainer you have to be extremely responsible. During my time of being the water girl at berry, I was on top of my job. Unfortunately I have a couple of bad qualities. These include being off task, and talking a lot.

I have ADHD, so i often get off task. I like messing around regrettably I mess around at the wrong times. I have learned to control myself, so this won’t be a humongous issue. My biggest issue is talking a lot. I have a tendency to talk out of turn. I understand that being an athletic trainer

Explaining things that people don't understand has always been a strong point in my time within the community. In sports, specifically volleyball, I am more experienced than most of the people in my grade. When someone is having trouble with a skill like hitting or passing I gladly help them and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Another quality that I have, is the ability to effectively communicate with others. Not only am I able to communicate with people that I am helping, but also with leaders within this club. I can communicate clearly and professionally through; email, text, verbally, and on the phone. When I have a planned absence from a sport’s practice, I notify my coach at least twenty-four hours before the scheduled start time. My work ethic has always been a strong point within my years of schooling. I have never been tardy to a class or skipped class to do things that I think are more important. Working in groups or teams has always been something I am good at. Working with teams efficiently and effectively is very important, this is especially shown on sports teams, were at practice if one person is slacking off it's harder for…

I interviewed Ben Cleveland, who is the head Athletic Trainer for Oklahoma Baptist University. Athletic Trainers are not technically a field in leadership studies, but this interview was very beneficial to be because I want to be an Athletic Trainer at the high school level. This interview just reassured me that being an Athletic Trainer is truly what I want to do with my life. Before talking about how Ben views leadership, one has to know and understand his background and where he is coming from. Ben is originally from Mobile, Alabama and earned his undergraduate in Science in Athletic Training from the University of Alabama soon after that he obtained a Master’s of Science in Physical Education at Florida State University. Ben started as an assistant athletic trainer at Trevecca Nazarene University for seven years before accepting the job here at Oklahoma Baptist University.…

I would like to apply for Special Assistant. I work well with others, but am also self-motivated and can get things done without someone constantly reminding me what I need to do. I am the president of the Zero Waste club, and an honor student. I take pride in everything I do, and strive to go above and beyond what is expected from me. Working well with others along with good communication is a strong suit of mine. In soccer I am center defense (sweeper), so I have to tell the outside defenders who their mark is, and make sure the other team does not get past us. In tennis I play doubles, so I constantly communicating to the other player to make sure one of us has the ball, or to tell them that it is out so they do not have to work as hard.…

I volunteered to help at the Byrne academy. I help organize and gather up the soccer equipment. I also help at the academy by performing various skills for the kids that attended. At the same time, I also help out at Lakeview men’s soccer tryout. My position was to keep track of the player’s stats. A lot of times, I would get instructions from the head coach to set up drills for the players, and I would set up the drills. I’m excellent with following instructions. Most importantly, I have a huge school spirit. Back in my high school days, I would always wear the school colors, I’ve watch all the Lakeview men’s soccer games that are played at home. I also attended to most sport event, such as basketball game, football game, and wrestling meet. I attended the career fair event in the Carson Center with the intent to talk to people willing to employ Athletic Trainers. I had been looking forward to it, and soon realized it was not what I thought it would be. I had previously looked into a few of the participant’s companies and found a few that might be worth talking to. However, this number was few and far between for only Athletic Training jobs. Some of the people I talked to were more interested in me if I had a Pre-Physical Therapy track rather than just Athletic Training, such as Common Wealth Health Corporation, Wabash Christian Therapy, and Pro Rehab. Considering I have not yet decided if I wanted to just go into Physical Therapy or just Athletic Training yet. Meeting these people felt like I was almost incompetent with my future degree since I am leaning towards a Master’s in Athletic Training.…

Also, I am a quick learner, have a strong work ethic, and I work well with others. Another strength I have is that I follow notes precisely and take detailed notes. One of my weaknesses is that I can be too sensitive sometimes, by letting the little things get to me. Also, there are times where I can talk too quickly or too quietly. Sometimes I can be very self-critical of myself, if I mess up I tend to be very hard on myself for it. But from these weaknesses I am looking for ways to learn and grow from them. I look forward to pursuing this career, this has been a lifelong goal of mine since I was in the sixth…

My nickname is “Lil Bit”. That is what everyone calls me. I play volleyball and softball. My favorite class is sports medicine. Learning all the tapes and how to help athletes and being on the sidelines of the games is amazing. It really helped me to see what a career as an athletic trainer is going to be like since that is what I want to be. My favorite teams are Clemson and the Atlanta Braves. My papa and I will always watch the braves baseball games together. My papa currently has lung cancer. He goes back to the doctor Wednesday to find out if the chemo helped. He is my best friend. I like getting things done and find it hard to let go. I found that working in quality assurance is helping with working on this due to the fact instead of trying to fix it myself; I must send it back to others to fix their own mistakes. Second weakness is being too task orientated, I tend to want to do one thing at a time when sometimes multitasking may need to be involved. Like when I go on a field visit and need to speak to my patients’ family and my…

Because my good grades allowed, I became a tutor in hopes of improving my teaching skills. Another thing I struggle with is public speaking; it is not something that I am comfortable doing. My undergraduate courses have helped me to become more comfortable with public speaking. The more I do it, the more comfortable I will become. I am a very driven person and I strive to better myself everyday. If I am faced with a task that I am not fully comfortable with I will network with others who posses the correct knowledge and research the topic myself to become more comfortable. I abide by the evidence based practice philosophy set forth by the academy. My strong will and perseverance has led me to success in academics and athletics. Swimming at the Division 1 level was a source of extra physical and mental stress on an already stressful road to pursuing an undergraduate degree. The countless early mornings, months of training, and missed classes for competitions all taught me how to manage my time wisely. I am extremely proud that I had the strength and determination to finish my four years of NCAA eligibility as a swimmer, a feat that few have accomplished. I am a highly analytical person, as I like to analyze many different angles to an issue before I make a decision. I am thorough in my decision making process so I do not miss important information. Being an athlete and having a strong…
