The Importance Of A High GPA For The Purpose Of Education
The fact that educators expect students to demonstrate a passion for learning is very different from the culture of my previous high school. In high school everything is about grades. All students cared about was retaining the information learned long enough for the test in order to get a good report card. I did this in order to get a high GPA for the purpose of college applications. In college you learn more things that will help you in the future, especially if it's required for your major. Professors want to see students desiring to learn what they have to teach because the students are not required to be in college, it is a choice to further their education beyond high school. Each person must have something that keeps them going, or motivates them into doing studies in order to accomplish a goal, which would be to graduate from or finish a class. I think that most of the students at GCU would say that what motivates them is the fact that if they don’t do the studies or classwork and fail the course they would then lose out on a lot of money. The other point of doing a good job in a study is to show yourself approved and worthy in the eyes of God, and your teacher and your peers. If you push forward and get good grades it should make an open door to jobs that couldn’t be obtained before your schooling began. C.E.O.…

In this essay that came from Caroline Bird’s book “The Case Against College”, she claims that most students that are in school not because they want to be, but because it is now the thing to do or to get away from their parents. (Bird 647) She also goes on to say a little later essay that she notices when she goes on campus that the students look sad. She says, “I have been overwhelmed by the prevailing sadness on American campuses”. (Bird 469) Birds has very good arguments, from how expensive college is, why a lot of students fail out of class, to letting high school graduates make up their minds on whether or not they want to go to college or not.…

When asked why they go to school, most students will say to please their parents or to have a good career. What they don’t realize is that school is more than just that. School is about building good people and to make you your best person. It all depends on what the teachers do to encourage their students. If the teacher isn’t interested in what they are teaching, the students will not have the drive to learn either.…

GPA is a calculated average of letter grades, it reflects one’s hard work in school, but any number of student’s GPA can be affected in many ways such as lack of commitment and stress. Now, many might argue that college is the only way to secure a good job position and the only reason to get a degree. Jeffrey Selingo, a professor at the University of Arizona and the former editor of the Chronicle of Higher Education, writes that students and their parents prefer to obtain a bachelor's degree designated to a specific area; for example, the most popular today is business. That is why “students and their families, faced with big tuition bills, want to be sure to pick a major that leads to a job after graduation. ” (Selingo) That is to say, parents and students are worried that their investment in education can be wasted and hope to get a return in the future.…

I one day asked you, “What is your motivation for teaching?” and you said, “I teach because it is fun!” Yes, education must give people joy, not distress. We all will definitely get excited by seeing an “A” on the rubric paper, feeling compensated for our effort. At the same time, however, you said, “I hate grading.” Why? You would probably hate it for the similar reason we hate it: our feeling becomes contingent on the grades we get on the assignments. We feel extremely miserable when we get a low grade, while we feel excessively delightful when we get a good…

Throughout my four years of high school I have always kept my grades up and I am very proud to say that I have maintained a GPA of a 3.6 and above. I have made honor roll all in all my semesters here at LHS. Getting good grades was never really a struggle for me until I got in the harder math classes like AP Statistics and Precalculus. Those were the only classes I struggled with because it takes me more time to comprehend the formulas and understand how to put them into practical use. But no matter what class I have taken I have always learned something new or something different that applies to not only my schoolwork but also the outside world. Knowing all of this knowledge will definitely help in my everyday life outside of highschool…

It is understandable why colleges would focus strictly on academic achievement because when it honestly comes down to it, one has to make good grades in order to get into a good school; however, I do not think admissions should be entirely based on grades. Yes, you should maintain a high GPA, but there is more to a person than just their school life. A sentence on page one says “Consider less decorated high-schoolers who have committed time to a sick relative or juggled jobs to help their families.” This exemplifies real life situations that are unavoidable for some students. I think who you are outside of school says more about one’s character and who they truly are. Page three says “Many now require that applicants write personal essays to…

Academics was not always a passion of mine. In truth, given my socioeconomic status and the struggles my family has been plagued with throughout my life, I found it difficult to see the value of education.
