The Humanitarian Award is an award given to a person who dedicates their time to fighting indifference, intolerance, and injustice. Or it may just be one of your family members who is loving and caring for others. One of the winners of this award you may be familiar with is Ellen DeGeneres. She was honored with this award for her life-changing work with individuals, communities, and organizations. My dad, Mike Link is deserving of the Humanitarian Award because he is caring for his family and all other people.
My dad, Mike owns two businesses. Fiber Chem., which is a company where they insulate tanks in different plants and such. He also owns Gold Standard which is an insurance company where they sell cancer policies. For Gold Standard, my dad will hire anyone in need of a job. It doesn't matter who you are or how much trouble that person has gotten into in the past. All you need to do is pass the insurance test and he's ready to give you a chance. This job will also pay really well depending on how hard you are willing to work for it. The more policies you sell in a week, the more money you are going to earn. This opportunity that my dad is willing to give anyone shows that he carries traits of humanitarianism.

His number one priorities are me and my brother no matter what the situation may be. I usually have baseball or basketball on the weekends and he is always there to support me. He is always putting me in the right situation to succeed in everything I do and I couldn't ask for anything more.
There are many reasons why my dad is deserving of this award but these were just a few examples of the man, he is. From his mindset of always giving more than receiving to his loving and caring personality of his two sons and wife. In the article titled “Why Some Critics Don’t Think Caitlyn Jenner Deserved the Arthur Ashe Courage Award”, writer Justin Wm. Moyer from the Washington Post discusses the criticisms that have come with ESPN’s decision to give Caitlyn Jenner the prestigious award which symbolizes courage. Moyer writes about the doubters who don’t believe that what Caitlyn Jenner did by publicly coming out as transgender constitutes as “courageous”. He also references those who believe that Lauren Hill, a 19-year-old college basketball player who recently passed away with cancer, would have been a better candidate to receive the award. Everyone has a role model or someone they look up to; my idol is my father. Steve John Steichen is the best dad ever; he is always there to help and sets a strong example for kids of all ages. My dad wakes up with me at 6:00 A.M. and leaves for work at the same time as I go to school and comes home at 5:30 every day just in time for a family meal. Although he is busy with his job, he always has time to help me with homework or play catch in the backyard. Best of all he is always emitting positive energy at home. He is a very inspirational man with dedication to family and strong work ethic; he has shown me how hard work will always pay off. I have been manipulated by him to work on baseball all off season and this has made me so much better at the game. I love my Dad. He motivates me to go the extra mile for extra credit in school, and has taught me to take opportunities as they are presented. When I am down because something bad has happened or my grades are not up to par, he always tells me to “never quit because no one likes a quitter”.
