The Holocaust: Irena Sendler's Role In The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a very devastating event in the history of the world. Many people have died in the cruel hands of the Nazi party. But people like Irena Sendler tried to help the Jews who were getting brutally murdered by Hitler. Irena Sendler was influential to aiding and assisting in the Holocaust for reasons including, she saved 2500 kids, almost got killed by Nazies and she had a very interesting life.
Irena Sendler was born in February 15, 1910. Seven years later her dad died of typhus. a polish nurse and a social worker. She studied Polish literature at Warsaw University and she joined the Polish Socialist Party. She wanted to prevent the ghetto bench system and because of that she was suspended from Warsaw university for three years. …show more content…
She saved over 2500 kids out of the ghettos and Germany. She had about 30 people volunteer to help her get the kids out Germany in coffins and underground tunnels (“LifeinaJar” 1). Another way Irena would help get the kids out of Germany is she would train dogs to bark and scare the Nazies to run away (Hevesi, 1). She would also keep a glass jar with all the names of the kids she saved (“Irena Sendler” 1).

Irena Sendler almost got killed when the Nazies found her. When the dogs were barking some Nazies go suspicious and went to go check it out and The Nazies broke both of her arms and legs. When sentenced to death she was saved last minute by Zgoda who bribed one of the Germans to halt the execution, The the rest of the war she was controlled by the Gestapo(“Irena Sendler” 1).
In conclusion Irena Sendler is risked her life many times to save jewish people during World War 2, was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, and knew every kid she saved and she saved around 2500. Many people thinks that she is very underrated because very little people knew about her and she saved so many people.
