The Hero's Journey
In chapter 4 of Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With A Thousand Faces",
The Hero's Journey is divided into different sections that detail the steps that outlined the heroes journey, which starts with the call to adventure. The hero is given a sign that indicates his/her path, leading the hero to journey from their home and begin his/her quest.
The protagonist may also be lured or tricked into getting involved in the story. The hero is then introduced to a helper, usually an older individual that provides the hero with training and knowledge on thier quest. The experience that the hero gains is put to the test by an opponent or obstacle that prevents the hero from continuing their journey. The protagonist may encounter allies that assist the hero

All I ever wanted to do was to see where I came from. I have spent my entire life working on a time machine to send me to 1919 and back. The time machine was modeled after a car with rockets. How you get the car able to time travel is you have to get the car going 100 miles per hour, then you push a button, and then where you want to go. When it was time to test it out I brought it to the highway and got it going 100 miles per hour, pushed the button, and thought where and when I wanted to go, it didn't work. I brought it back to the garage where I was working on it and figured out that I didn't connect the button. I brought the car back to the highway got it going 100 miles per hour, pushed the button, and thought where and when I wanted to…

Theseus is often seen as the greatest hero in Athens, but is his story that much different than any other hero? The Greek myth “Theseus” is a perfect example of Joseph Campbell’s idea of the Hero’s Journey, also known as Monomyth. Monomyth is the idea that all stories follow a basic pattern, written in twelve stages. The three stages that best demonstrate this idea in Theseus are: Crossing the Threshold; Tests, Allies, Enemies; The Resurrection.…

I think I am starting to get tired of the everyday routine that we have to endure so we can spend the rest of the day travelling, only to rise the next day to repeat the process again. We wake up earlier than the sun does to eat a meal consisting of bacon, bacon, and more bacon. It wasn’t all that bad at first, but now, I can’t even look at it anymore. At this point in the journey, I am starting to be introduced to another side of nature, one that I didn’t get to experience back in Pittsburgh. We are travelling down a part of the prairie that provides a home to many unique specimens that are new to our city eyes.…

Living on the miniscule island of Takeshima, Japan, James could never go further than his 123,000 square foot island that was measured by himself. Every day, after his chores were done, James would fill his precious backpack with high-tech tools that were often used by professionals during the most perilous of adventures. Then he would walk out of his house and travel every square inch of the island to see that nothing had changed and that there were no secret passages to any new land. Every day James would face the disappointment of not having his own grand adventure. It was a sad life.…

The room is dim, but just bright enough to see my surrounding. The area is cluttered with paper filled with equations on the solar system and articles on the Hero’s Journey. The old computer is in the corner of the room. I am there, standing, ready to turn it on. With the press of a button, the computer is on, and with it I am ready. The monitor blinked back to life, cycled through the setup logos, and, before I know it, up popped the login menu. Logging in begins my adventure.…

A hero’s journey is made up of 12 stages that can be found in practically every story that exists. These stages can be repeated, switched around, and some stages can even be skipped depending on the preferences of each individual writer. To begin with, stage 1, “The Ordinary World” happens before the journey begins preferably at the very beginning of the story. This stage allows us to get to know the hero personally, a hero is the main character whose main goal is to sacrifice himself to complete a quest and restore order. Stage 2, “The Call To Adventure” is when a sudden conflict arises that is well described as the first bump on the road provoking the hero to step into action. “He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination.” The quote mentioned is one of Jose Rizal’s famous quotes and sure enough, he stayed true to his words as he was one of those people who keeps looking back at where he was from, as evidenced by his entries in this diary and letters to close friends and family. He was the kind of person who liked to share to others on what he had gone through, no matter how low or down in the eyes of others. The documentary “Ang Buhay ng Isang Bayani” featured the story and the happenings that had taken place in our national hero’s life. The events that were highlighted have gone all the way from when he was born and up until the day he died. His beginnings, his life with his family, his student life, his love life, his travels, his thoughts, his ideas, his emotions, and even his hardships had been revealed.…
