The Hero In The Film All The President's Men

The Watergate Hotel has always been popular among political figures and is well known as the location of one of the biggest scandals in the United States history (“Watergate”). It is because of two ambitious reporters from the Washington Post that Nixon’s dirty work was uncovered for all the world to know. The film, All the President’s Men, is a classic because the characterization, the setting, and the theme to never give up on a goal. Actor Robert Redford bought the rights to All the President’s Men, and not only did he own it he had the starring role as Bob Woodward. The technical investigative process that the characters go through as they get closer and closer to their story gives the viewer the idea that a person cannot give up until they have reached a desired goal (Ebert). The two reporters investigated continuously around the clock, searching for one detail after another of information to support their story. There is one scene when Woodward is at his desk continuing to investigate his story even while the rest of the office is watching Nixon during his campaign. Even though both Woodward and Bernstein had the door literally slammed in their faces multiple times looking for enlightenment on the subject matter, they did not stop until one person was willing to answer their questions. Their persistence eventually lead to Nixon’s resignation. It is incredible to imagine that if these men had not uncovered all of the information in the scandal, President Nixon might have gotten away with bugging the democratic headquarters. It would have led to government instability and the two political parties would never be able to trust each other.
