Title: The Heat
Text type: Film
Director: Paul Feig

The film ‘The Heat’ is a film about a very formal but cocky FBI agent who is paired with a really aggressive Boston cop to take down a ruthless drug lord. The FBI agent, Sarah Ashburn, only agreed to take on this case to get a promotion. The Boston cop, Mullins, was chosen to do this case because she knew the town better than anyone else did. Sarah Ashburn and Mullins did not like each other at first because Sarah Ashburn did everything according to the defence force manual whereas Mullins just did everything her way. When Mullins finds out the actual reason why Sarah Ashburn is in Boston, she gets angry and decides to take on the case herself, because she thought that Sarah Ashburn was using the case as a breakthrough for her career, whereas Mullins just wants to solve crime and make Boston a better place to live in. When this happens, Mullins gets herself in a predicament and Sarah Ashburn saves her. This is where they learn that they really care about each other and made peace.
I thought that the relationship between Mullins and Sarah Ashburn was very interesting because they hated each other but still figured out a way to put their differences a side and solve the case. In the beginning of the film, Sarah Ashburn came across as being a very uptight person who didn’t really care about others but herself. Mullins came across as being a very aggressive know-it-all, and liked everything her way. This is shown in the scene where they’re interviewing a potential suspect. Ashburn: “Are you about to be interrogated by an officer?”
Mullins: “I am an officer and that’s my perp.”
Sarah Ashburn: “Could you just close the door on the way out.”
Mullins: “I’ll shut the door on you. Will you lay down here and put your head in the door and I’ll slam it about 157 thousand times?” I think the reason why they didn’t get along at first because they were both

“In The Heat of the Night” is a gripping murder mystery story that incorporates a major issue of the time it was written at; racism. The original novel (published in 1965), written by John Ball, is a story of Virgil Tibbs, a Negro homicide investigator. The death of orchestra-conductor Enrico Mantoli and a series of other events lead up to him in charge of a murder investigation in Wells, Carolina. This is much to the dismay of Bill Gillespie, the extremely prejudice police chief. The movie version (released in 1967), also features Mr. Tibbs as the leader of a murder investigation. However, the setting is Sparta, Mississippi, and the victim is Philip Colbert, a man planning to build a factory in the town. The movie was very successful, and proceeded to win 5 Academy Awards. Despite this, I find the book is more appealing because the characters are easier to relate to, and have a chance to get well-rounded in a gradual sense. In addition, the plot development steadily makes progress, and is overall less tense, therefore more enjoyable. Both movie and book, however, are quite impressive in the incorporation of racial equality issues, and should equally be recognized as landmarks in American media for this reason.…

For the purpose of this class, you asked us to read the book Armed and Dangerous: Memoirs of a Chicago Policewoman by Gina Gallo. I’ll be honest and admit that at first the book didn’t sound all too appealing, but it turned out to be an interesting and enjoyable read. Many of the chapters were highly interesting, taking an inside look at the duties of a Chicago police officer. Chapters dealt with illegal drugs, shady characters, brutal crimes, and other situations that police are part of every day. Gallo’s recollection of events is far more dramatic that that of other officers, but that is probably why the book was so enjoyable. Throughout the book the author takes readers on a roller coaster ride of emotion while she portrays the life of a police woman and recounts some of her days while working in the Chicago Police Department. Mrs. Gallo captured the art of telling cop stories as only one who has been in those situations can. She manages to place you in the middle of the scene and by doing so, the book provides a compelling glimpse at inner city policing.…

The novel “In the Heat of the Night” introduces the reader to two characters, Virgil Tibbs and Bill Gillespie. Virgil Tibbs is a homicide detective at the Pasadena Police department, and Bill Gillespie is the Chief of Police for Wells County. In the novel they are shown as two completely opposite characters whose personalities differ almost completely. The basic aspect of the novel is how during the 1960’s people in the south underwent severe racism and prejudice. The novel also depicts how because of those racial tensions the way these two characters interact with each other and how that is evident. In the beginning of the novel we are introduced to Virgil Tibbs. He is shown as a wealthy, highly educated, and confident young African American. Virgil Tibbs is introduced to us as a prime suspect for the murder of Enrico Mantoli. Soon after we are presented that Tibbs is an officer and that is a shock to Gillespie. Virgil Tibbs is a very well educated man, who is calm and patient with others. An example of this would be when Gillespie is angry or disturbed by Tibbs actions, he acts very calm and does not ever get angry. Despite all the hatred and anger people have for him he still continues to act in a civilized and well-behaved manor towards his co-workers and the people around him On the other hand, Bill Gillespie is a totally different character. He is physically larger and older than Tibbs, is a racist, and has several temper issues. Gillespie believes that Tibbs is far more experienced at the job then he is. Gillespie understands that Tibbs knows what he is doing, but is not happy about the fact that Tibbs has been selected to investigate the case. The problem Gillespie has with Tibbs is that he is more educated and has a higher source of income then he does. Also, Gillespie’s initial reaction to having Tibbs work on the case was negative and demanded that Tibbs be sent to his train right away.. An example of this would “Who in hell asked you to open your big…

Last two weeks, san francisco and the whole bay areas have suffered an epic heat wave. “This was the highest reading since records were first kept there in 1874,” says by the National Weather Service meteorologist Duane Dykema. On the September 1st, the temperature in San Francisco was as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit at noon, which was the highest ever. Meanwhile, some of the traditional hotspots in the inland spots are also very hot, just as the Livermore hit 114 degrees, and Concord hit 109.…

Also the story was interesting. Not all stories can appeal like Heat. If you like baseball you would agree that this book is interesting. Heat is about a kid who can’t seem to prove his age after moving to New York from Cuba. His dad has died so he has no contact with Cuba. During 1960s, there was unbelievable amount of racism going on, in the United States, especially in the south. In The Heat Of The Night can be read as a mystery story for few people, but others would simply read it as an underlying racial issue. In general opinion, this novel is both a mystery story and an underlying racial issue. These statements will be discussed in details: When local police officer Sam Wood found Virgil Tibbs waiting for the train, he swiftly takes him into custody where he was questioned about a murder. The mystery is shown by the literary point of view used in In the Heat of the Night.…
