After a long day of swimming the otter would roll on the ground or rub on a log to dry themselves. The Oriental Small Clawed Otter can last up to 6-8 minutes under water, so hunting for food is easy. Their forefeet are helpful because they use them to capture their food and “Their hind feet says wildlife explorer states, “Are used for swimming.” “Their eyes stay shut for 40 days after birth,” states the wildlife explorer. According to the wildlife explorer, “Their number of young is 1-6 but usually 1-2.” One of the most interesting facts is that if several otters are swimming in one straight line with their backs out of the water their backs can be mistaken for the humps of a sea monster. Its genus and species is “Aonyx Cinera” that is also the species for the African Otter. Although they are the same species the African otter is much bigger, and weighs up to 75lb and just like the Oriental Small Clawed Otter and the Asian Otter they all have white markings on their faces, chests and throat. The Oriental Small Clawed Otter is one otter that loves to swim and definitely loves to snack on…
Methods of study were primarily based on physical appearance of the dolphin. Cranial measurements were taken from 40 commonly used measurements, as well as tooth counts from 18 specimens of bottlenose dolphins from across…
Being the most prevalent dolphin species in the world, the Common Bottlenose Dolphin is widespread, active throughout both temperate and tropical waters worldwide. Despite this extensive range, it does not appear to be present in polar waters (pole-ward 45°) except in southern New Zealand and northern Europe, typically inhabiting waters with a surface temperature between 10 and 32 degrees celsius. The Common Bottlenose Dolphin is one of few species that expoits a wide array of habitats around the world, including both temperate and tropical inshore,…

Looking at the chart shown in the results section, it is clear the most frequent behaviors are bark, yell, and yelp. The correlation between these three behaviors is that all of them are vocal behaviors. Beginning with the behavior of barking, barking is a very typical form of communication for seals and revolves around establishing and defending territory and mates (SOURCE). Harbor seals, usually males, will bark at other males in order to create territorial boundaries among themselves. These territorial boundaries are not created in order increase access to food because the diet of the harbor seal consists primarily of fish, which are located only in the water. This means that seals secure territories in order to secure mates. There is a competition between males to acquire mates and reproduce and it is for this reason that it's so important for males to be territorial.…
With amazing adaptations and cool behaviors, harbor seals are very unique animals that we can learn to love and protect.…

My name is Jaron Pierre Jr. and i am going to be talking about the sea otter . The sea otter is a marine mammal native to the coasts of the northern and eastern North Pacific Ocean . They live over 10-15 years . Their breeding season is during September to November , they are territorial during it . Their scientific name is Enhydra lutris . Adult sea otters typically weigh between 14 and 45 kg (31 and 99 lb) , making them the heaviest members of the weasel family , but among the smallest marine mammals . Unlike most marine mammals , the sea otter’s primary form of insulation is an exceptionally thick coat of fur , The densest in the animal kingdom . Even though they can walk on land , the sea otter lives mostly in the ocean . The sea otter…
Harbor porpoises are killed by their predators: killer whales and large sharks, like the great white shark. The biggest threat to harbor porpoises however is fishing nets. Every year porpoises die when they get stuck in fishing nets and cannot surface in order to breath. It is fascinating to hear that Harbor Porpoises in Europe, where there are no Killer Whales and large sharks, are apex predators. An apex predator is the predator at the top of the food chain with no predators. There are gruesome images of ravaged Harbor porpoises on Google and other media sites as well. The most common reason for this sickening sight is getting caught in nets and the rough netting scratching the porpoise’s…

There are very few animals that can compare to the top mammal of marine animals. The Orca or killer whale is the largest of the dolphin family; with the full name of Orcinus Orca; meaning Greek god of the underworld. They are whales with distinct black and white coloring and have teeth that can be up to 4 inches in length. Not only they one of the largest of the sea they are also the fastest of marine animals and can travel speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.…
First of all, the experiment will have to have a carefully set time and place. Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins inhabit tropical and temperate waters of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans; they…
Keystone species are species of animals that other species and the entire ecosystem depend on. Sea otters and elephants both play major roles in their ecosystems, as they are both keystone species. Without these two species, their ecosystems would have drastic changes in the environment in which many organisms and species would not be able to survive. If the sea otters and elephants were to leave the ecosystem it would cause a domino effect. The domino effect would make other species disappear and become extinct. After species leave, there is room for new species to move in and overtake the native species which would then change the ecosystem entirely to a new one. Sea otters and elephants are prime examples of keystone species, as without them a rapid domino effect would happen…

Sea otters may look cute and furry from the outside but they have many attributes that help them to survive in their natural habitat. Along with being one of the smartest mammals, they also have finely tuned senses that help protect them and help them hunt. Their cute and furry appearance is not deception, despite living in the wild, they are very social and often swim along side boats and scuba divers. This became very dangerous when poachers realized the value of their pelts, and sea otters were hunted to near extinction…
