The newspaper industry is in such a decline that it seems the only way to get them back up and running is to think innovatively. The best idea in moving forward is for everyone being adaptable to change. As mentioned in Assignment 1, the alternatives that could be used to reposition the newspaper is enhancing newspaper websites by adding sponsors, co-branding with Google and/or Microsoft, and soliciting town hall meetings. According to the US Census Data, there are 112,970 internet users that are householders 25 years and older. Of them, 68,042 are currently employed. It is significant to capture how many employed people there are in order to round out the target audience. Employed people are most likely to purchase this new version of the product.…

    The Onion's Article

The Onion’s article “Revolutionary New Insoles Combine Five Forms of Pseudoscience”, sound like the script to a typical television commercial. The article talked about shoe insoles that “Establish a correspondence between every point on the human foot, with another part of the body, enabling their soles to heal their entire bodies as they walk.” They also talked about “scientific-sounding “information supporting their new insoles. I have seen commercials for shoe insoles on television that sound just like this. How are we to know that the scientific jargon that they throw into these commercials is accurate? These persuasion techniques seem to work, or else they would not sell any products. In the article, there was a woman who talked about wearing the insoles for seven weeks after having twisted her ankle, and now it has remarkable healed, with no pain while she walks. I have sprained my ankles many times, and the doctors there, always told me that it would take six to eight weeks to heal, so with this in mind, the woman’s foot would have been completely healed. People who have never sprained an ankle, or had another similar injury, would not know that this is the approximate healing time, so they would believe the woman, and probably think she is a reliable witness as to how well the insoles work. Keeping this in mind, we should not believe television commercials just because they might sound scientifically correct. Do some research or ask someone who knows before committing to buying a product that you are not sure about.…

The United States and Canada developed a business interconnectivity between their nations in the early building processes because each country had resources and services that the other country didn’t have. With the introduction of the Industrial Revolution in America, new forms of transportation were created to ship goods across nations. The United States was able to find cheaper labor in Canada, while Canada was able to spread their goods into a larger market.…

{draw:rect} {draw:g} {draw:frame} The Newsboys Strike takes place during the late 1800’s. During these times, working conditions for Americans in the New York area had become increasingly hazardous causing several workers to become injured on the job. Since in these times healthcare coverage was not an option for many workers, injuries often occurred and the employees of these hazardous-conditioned companies could do nothing but await their curing and hope the family might find a way to remain supported until they’d be able to continue working. For many families, this meant sending on the younger boys, sometimes as young as six and seven, into the streets to distribute these newspapers. Any revenue earned was habitually brought back to these children’s families. Once papers had been sold the cycle of child labor would repeat the following morning. This was a difficult time for many, especially younger children who in these times confronted issues such as homelessness and starvation, not to mention the lack of emotional support. Children all over New York City would wake early in the morning and follow on into their daily routines of buying papers and hoping to get a small profit to survive. Times seized to become even more difficult when Joseph Pulitzer begins to ponder on ideas of bringing in more money. “There’s more money out there in those streets, and I want to know how I can make more of it”. In his money-hungry words one can truly view his desperation to accumulate more money despite having to go to the extreme to retrieve this. After deliberating a few ideas on how to accumulate more money, both Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst decide to team upand profit together instead of constantly competing to gain profits. They would then proceed to raising the price of newspapers, believing that the “Newsies“ had no other option but to accept this harsh fact and try even harder to sell their “Papes” .This is a great example of Oligopoly in the area due…

Even 100 years ago, writers and people have confronted issues that still remain today. In this essay by one of the writers from The Atlantic Monthly, he utilizes the use of an analogy, strong and even diction, and uses strong facts to support his ideas on what he thinks of the arguments and ideas which existed during the time period of his life, which still don't really contain any validity due to our complex society in which we now live in.…

The history begins in the 1st century, when Romans invaded Britain. Romans added southern Britain to the empire as Britannia province. To keep the northern tribes from invading, Emperor Hadrian built a huge wall across the island. The Romans called the land on the north side of the wall Caledonia and the people were called the Picts, meaning “painted” for their painted bodies. 5th century Celtic immigrants from Ireland, also known as Scots, settled north of Clyde. They were already Christians when they left Ireland. St. Columbia, in the next century, converted the Picts king to Christianity. In the 10th century the land became known as Scotland.…

Neil Shah wrote this article which briefly covers the topics of unemployment and the natural unemployment rate. The way our economy has been on a downward slope has led to the need to write about the natural unemployment rate. There are more and more people losing their jobs. Not only do they lose their jobs, but the longer that they are out of the job market, the more uninterested future employees are at hiring them, thus putting them out for a long period of time. The article focuses on how the natural rate was 5%, but has increased more recently. It tries to determine what the underlying cause of the increase is. The natural rate is healthy because it leaves room for the ebb and flow of the economy. However, increasing this natural rate only means that there are more people than should be out of work. Neil Shah believes that the reason for the higher rate of unemployment is due to a weak demand for workers. The main issue with the higher unemployment rate is that the higher it gets, the Federal Reserves would like to join in an effort to help the economy, but by doing so it leaves a risk for a higher inflation.…

I will admit that I am rather new to the discussion on bigotry, privilege, and the various -isms. I was speaking with a female friend of mine a few months ago, and I remarked that women, on average, are less able to compartmentalize their emotions than men. She was (justifiably) irate, and I qualified myself.…

Women have made many turning points in history, and it is about time the gals showed that they can be in a position of power. The article “Ten Reasons a Women Should Head the C.I.A.”, written by Tara Miller is about just that. Overall I agree with the writers claim that women should climb to power and improve the status of women everywhere in this nation, which we call ‘equal’. At many times the author seems biased to me, perhaps because she is a woman herself.…

He took up journalism as a profession and as he himself illustrated his humorous articles, essays, reviews and short stories, they were in great demand In 1836 he married Isabella Shawe and after that their three daughters were born Thackeray's married life wasn't happy as his wife fell ill and the illness affected her mind Thackeray gave up his business and for a long time tried his best to relieve his wife's sufferings and make her life comfortable, but she never regained her health.
