Biological isolation, geological stability and an erratic climate helps to explain how everything in Australia and everything in it. Biological isolation shows how the flora and fauna can easily adapt, in the isolation from other previously connected continents. The geological stability has been quite common in recent years for Australia, because Australia is in the middle of a tectonic plate. An erratic climate affect majorly on reproductive cycles and the survival rate of flora and fauna. These factors have shaped Australian environments uniqueness.…

In 1932 Georgia O’Keeffe frequently visited the Gaspé peninsula, and was often accompanied by Georgia Engelhard, an artist mentored by O’Keeffe. O’Keeffe found Canada to be a “very good country for painting – quite as good as New Mexico”. The land was similar to that of her childhood in Wisconsin, the lushness of the landscape provided contrast to the barren landscapes of New Mexico. Green Mountains, Canada is similar to O’Keeffe’s western landscapes, both of which are painted in her abstracted style, but provide a different color palate that favors greens and blues over reds…

The Great Smoky Mountains landform is mostly sedimentary rocks that were formed by the accumulation of sand, clay, silt, sand, gravel, and minor amounts of calcium carbonate in flat-lying layers. According to The Great Smoky Mountain’s website, about 545 million years ago the sediments were formed and large amounts of those sediments were washed down into lowland basins from adjacent highlands. The colliding between the edge of the North American tectonic plate and the African tectonic was a huge cause of the creation of The Great Smoky Mountain landform. It was discovered that incredibly long and active geologic events were found in the rocks of the smoky mountains. There was a specific…

In the book, Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder, Paul Farmer made and continues to make a profound difference in the world. He was extremely successful because of the help he received from people who surrounded him. Partners In Health (PIH), Farmer’s organization, gives healthcare to people who cannot afford it and treatment to those with tuberculosis and AIDS. Although he was a founding advocate to the success of Partners In Health, Farmer would not have accomplished all that he did without the aid from others. Usually, it takes a group of people with the same goals in order to make a change in the world. Not everyone in the world can drop his/her entire life and put as much effort into saving the world as Paul Farmer did. However, he had many dedicated people who helped him. Without Ophelia Dahl, Tom White, and Jim Yong Kim, Paul Farmer would not have been nearly as successful as he is today.…

The Sierra Nevada mountain range stretches across the eastern side of the state of California. The range begins in the south at the Tehachapi Pass near Bakersfield and stretches north to Lake Almanor. The Sierra Nevada range is 400 miles long, north-to-south and has an average width of 70 miles wide. It was formed through subduction when the Pacific plate slid under the North American plate. The range is made up of deeply imbedded rock otherwise known as batholiths. The eastern slope of the mountains rose steeply which cause those slopes to be steep while the western sides are only gradually steep but not like the east 1. Thus the range provided as an early barrier to entrance into California and travelers had to go through the various passes to proceed, such as the famous Donner Pass.…
From Georgia to Newfoundland, the Appalachian Mountains stretches out. This was formed over 300 million years ago and is the oldest highland region in North America. When North America collided with Europe and Northern Africa during the formation of Pangaea (the supercontinent), rocks were uplifted. Rocks from Wales and Scotland can be similar to those found in the Appalachians of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Coal deposit is rich in the layers of sedimentary rock. Iron and zinc can also be found in plateaus of this rock. The once jagged peaks have been reduced over the years to rolling mountains and hills. Glaciation affected these erosions greatly, separating the hills and mountains with wide glacial valleys. The weight of ice pressed the…
Nations all over the world spend money on unnecessary buildings, monuments, and useless items that barely contribute to anything that will help the care of poor people that cannot help themselves. These under developed nations are faced with many infections, viruses and malnutrition and hardly anyone is doing anything. In Tracy Kidder’s Mountains Beyond Mountains, Paul Farmer spent and dedicated most of his life being a doctor in poor and corrupt countries. These people did not get the proper medical care they deserved because they were deprived of money and most of the hospitals in these poor countries only care about their wealth and not about the people but Paul Farmer used his own money to buy all types of medical supplies to help anyone that was in need. The main reason that most of these people are sick is because of malnutrition. These people in poor and corrupt countries are plagued with just not being healthy at all. People in poor countries that cannot afford proper medical care should receive it because in the story Mountain Beyond Mountains, Tracy Kidder shows how people in underdeveloped nations needs all the help they can get because of how unhealthy they are.…
