The Great Gatsby Book And Movie Analysis

There is a great deal of differences and similarities between the novel version and the movie version of “The Great Gatsby”. The novel version of The Great Gatsby is the more “official” version of the story. As we all know Hollywood likes to add somethings to their movies and make them more interesting. . Between the two versions there are plenty of similarities and differences which can be seen quite well. In the two versions we were introduced to the five main characters; Nick, Gatsby, Tom, Daisy, and Myrtle. While at the second party which Nick goes to, he is able to see Tom and Myrtle's affair present while they are in Myrtle’s apartment. We also hear about the “Green Light” across from Gatsby’s house which is where Daisy lives. Nick is narrator of the novel and the movie. In the novel though, there is not much happening there, all they’re doing is just drinking. But in the movie the party is very wild and is quite the party experience. At this point Nick acknowledges the affair happening between Tom and Myrtle in both versions. In the movie, Myrtle’s sister, Catherine is seen drugging Nick, and that does not happen in the novel. The second party in the novel is probably the least eventful party out of the three, but in the movie it is probably the most wild exciting party. Both, the movie and the novel show that the green light symbolizes the life that Gatsby always wanted with Daisy. The green light is Daisy’s house and Gatsby chose his house for that very reason, hoping Daisy would come to one of his parties and they could meet up once again.
