The Great Depression
Mother Holding baby: It’s been three days since I’ve had a decent meal, and a whole week since the last time I had something else on other than this plaid dress. We deiced to stop on the side on road because the kids were getting cranking and honestly I was to. My husband George is cooking one of the few can of beans we have left and I hope it’s enough for everyone. We had all our money invested Dow Jones industrial and like many other we lost it when the stock market fell. Just when things were looking good, it all just took a turn for the worst.
Four year old girl:
Mommy made me leave all my toys, because she said it wouldn’t be enough room in the car. But she did say I could put on my best church dress, my favorite coat and my patent leather shoes I got from grandma for Christmas. When I asked daddy if we were coming back all he could say was no and then I would hear him mutter some bad words. Now we are stuck here on the side of the road waiting for my dad to finish cooking a disgusting can of baked beans.
Man cooking:
They said investing in their company wouldn’t be a hassle but it’s been the biggest mistake I ever made. Wearing my old work clothes and hat has been the nothing but a reminder of the day that had turned our world upside down. While on our journey to a new home I picked up to hitchhikers who have experienced the same hardship and after 3 days of driving we have to stop to eat. One can of beans split 8 ways is going to be hard but we got to do it.
