The Good, the Better, and the Ugly
The Good, The Better, and The Ugly
As a foreign student I have confronted many difficulties specially when writing English because it is not my first language. In addition, once classes started I felt uneasy in English 1301 to be taught by Professor Belz; however, once in class I noticed several points, for instance, the good, the better, and the ugly facts from taking a college level class for English.
First of all, while I was taking the English 1301 class I noticed good quality points in the course. These include the way the schedule has been set up. Another good angle is that our class meets only on Saturdays for three hours and that gave the professor extra time to finish the lecture. Even though the class was an eight weeks long period, I gained a great deal of knowledge from the materials I red throughout the class. In fact, the materials made me realize how good it is to read different types of stories because it does help the student to polish his or her language, and makes the students better writers. In addition, the essays I wrote for the class were extremely instructive and the professor always gave good explanations to follow for the assignments. The handouts she used in class were extremely clear. Also the links we followed for instructions were simple, so this made the course easy to follow. The course seemed to be hard at first, but the Mrs. Bellz made it easy to understand.
One more good point is how the class was taught, which made it a better class. Professor Belz made the class extremely emotional and humoristic especially when the readings where explained. Moreover, this made the readings easier to understand and more attractive for the students. Even though the class was early in the morning, professor Bellz kept the lecture alive at all times. In fact, I never lost interest or even stopped listening to the lecture because the way it was imparted. In addition, the class period was short and this made it better because I had the time to do all the assignments. Another great quality of the class was the submitting process for the online assignments because it was easy to follow the instructions. Lastly, the easy access to information online for the course made the class a pleasant one.

Finally, the presented some ugly aspects as well. For instance, the class was not a regular period; therefore, we had a lot of assignments every week. In fact, there were times I felt worried that I would not finish the assignments on time. The more overwhelmed I felt the more assignments I saw posted online, and this brought to think on dropping the class. However, I never dropped it because I started to work harder on my assignments. Another ugly was that the assignments we were not able to submit late homework because everything had its due date online. In fact, the online site would not let you to submit one minute after the hour assigned.
Starting English 1301 class was not an easy task because adapting to a new instructor is sometimes hard. However, the knowledge I have acquired from English 1301 class has been helping me in my other classes as well. In fact, all the good and better points have made me realized how great it is to read and write. Even though the ugly sides made the class harder, I learned a lot from this class and my reading, writing, analytical skills have improved greatly.

Blue’s class she reminded them of the Bill Nye video that they had watch, and the kids remember lots of things from the video. This was a great way to get the students engaged and to help with a visual representation. She also gave each of them a chance to explain their reason and definitions with the whole class. She kept the students engaged by having them all take turns reading and highlight as they went along. Her role was to present questions for the students, who were to think about the answer and then share with one another. It was a good idea to spilt the students in to partners to discuss. In Mr. G’s he explained that the students had only been giving him work that was about fifty percent effort. He did allow for students to take out there phone and take pictures of the board to make sure they had the information. They also were very good at reading along with him and answering his questions out of the book. I think it was a good idea to get the students more engaged in the learning process, by working in smaller groups together. These are both great examples of their responsibility as a teacher to create good creative and instructive…

If I could change one thing about this class, it would definitely be about the reading. The readings were incredibly numerous and sometimes, I couldn’t finish everything, which led to a serious cycle of me falling incredibly behind. I would’ve loved for a way to cut down the readings, perhaps only read important excerpts or something because the workload was either really hard or very laid back.…

When it comes to writing a paper, I always want other to read my paper to make sure if I did the paper write. In this class, I got to talk to my classmates about my topic and share their ideas to narrow down the topic. It also helped me develop research questions. A peer review helped me realize my mistakes and develop more ideas. Those ideas not only helped write my paper in a different way, but it also showed me what else I need in my paper to make it a better essay. One of the things I really like about this class is the feedback from the instructor. Most instructors will only show the mistakes in an assignment, but Julia showed me exactly what I did wrong and how I could fix it. Julia showed us the techniques that I wanted to learn before I move on to my next class. These skill and techniques are the one I took into a count to use for my next classes.…

Throughout my writing career, I have observed several aspects with the potential to shape any writer’s success. Among the elements, the most influential of them is the English course in which the student enrolls. Moreover, English courses hold influence over a student’s life in that they have a responsibility to either advance or reduce the writer’s skills. The progress in my writing development began when English II guided me through noticing worth in my writing, finding pride in a strength, and appreciating positive aspects of the course.…

Through the first half of the school semester, English 1100-03, taught by Ms. Gail Taylor, has expanded my knowledge substantially through various open class discussions, many journal entries, essay and poem readings, and critical analysis of articles. Because the course deals with reading, writing, and teaching the use of proper grammar, my vocabulary has definitely increased. Also, because of the emphasis on higher learning that the class presents, we as students are expected to maintain a journal broken down into three parts: a "Dear Gail' section, a section for journal entries, and a section for rough drafts for upcoming assignments. Along with keeping a journal, we as students also have to have an attitude of flexibility, curiosity, and respect for the diversity of beliefs and opinions we all share.…
