The Godfather: A Synopsis

Synopsis (Summary) When the book, The Godfather came out, there were three parts to the story. Book one got released in 1972, book two got released in 1974, and book three got released in 1990. The book starts off in late summer of 1945, people were gathered for Don Vito Corleone’s daughter, Connie and her fiancé Carlo Rizzi’s, wedding reception. Don Vito Corleone, known as Vito, was the head of the Corleone Mafia family who has friends and associates who knows him as “godfather.” During the reception, Vito decides to call a meeting in his office with his oldest son, Sonny, and his adopted son/family lawyer, Tom Hagen. During the meeting multiple people goes into his office asking for favors. One of the men who were asking Vito for favors was Amerigo Bonasera, who was seeking revenge to the two men that had raped and beaten his daughter and only got a minimal amount of punishment. Although Vito was disappointed in Bonasera for avoiding him, Vito agrees to punish the two men. Johnny Fontane also asks Vito for a favor. He asks Vito to help him land a movie role that will help his career with Jack Woltz. After the wedding, Vito sends Tom to Los Angeles to have a talk with a studio owner, Jack Woltz who refuses to be a part of it. But that didn’t stop him; Vito decided to give him “an offer he cannot refuse...” The next day, Jack Woltz wakes up in a bed full of blood stains from his prized horse head under the covers.
In New York, Sollozo, a so called gangster wants to involve the corleone mafia in his narcotics smuggling operation, although there are two other families already involved in the scheme, the Barzinis and the Tattaglias, Sollozo sill wants Vito for protection and financing. Vito’s two sons, Sonny and Tom agree to expand the family business, so Vito sets up a meeting with Sollozo. But Vito still feels uneasy about distaste for drug trafficking so he rejects his offer and quickly hires a bodyguard, Luca Brasi, but was shortly murdered, Vito gets shot,
