The Godfather I The film is known as one of the greatest films of all time, it is about a powerful Italian-American family who runs one of the most powerful mobs in the city of New York. The head of the family is Don Vito Corleone. The movie is a mob drama with lots of action. There are two more movies that follow this one as this is part one of a trilogy. The Godfather was released in 1972 and is just under three hours long. It has earned multiple awards and is still viewed as one of the greatest films. The film begins with the whole family at Connie’s (Vito’s Daughter) wedding. Don Vito is in his office addressing mob business while his daughter’s wedding is going on in their yard. Tom Hagen’s has Tessio killed for betraying the family. Michael has Carlo killed for helping the Barzini family kill Sonny. The family then prepares to expand and move to Las Vegas.
Family Dynamic The Corleone family originated from Italy. Don Vito moved to the United States from Sicily, Italy. He came to New York as a young boy after his parents were killed. He grew up poor and began to build his wealth. Don Vito grew his wealth and started his own business in the olive oil industry. He used his olive oil company to launder money from his mob business. People would pay the mob for security. The Corleone was the most powerful family in New York, they had political power as well as control of the newspaper. Every male member of the Corleone family was involved in the family business. They all had hired gun men and a person to drive them around. All members of the Corleone family also had their own home. Their oldest son Sonny who takes over the family business after his father is gunned down outside his office. Tom Hanks is another male member of the Corleone family; he was adopted by Don Vito after he was found living in the streets. He is now the family lawyer. Fredo is the second youngest son of the Corleone family. He is not seen much as he lives in Las Vegas. Michael is the youngest of the family, he was in the marines and takes over the family business one Don Vito retires. He gets married in Sicily but his wife is killed before he returns to America. He gets married to Kay who was his girlfriend before he moved to Italy. Connie who is Don Vito’s only daughter gets married to Carlo Rizzi. She gets pregnant and has a baby who then becomes Michaels
