The Giver Movie And Book Differences

Good Essays
Difference is great, but can too much of it be unappealing? The Giver by Lois Lowry is a book that was made into a movie about a different and strange community. Jonas, the main character, is struggling because he finds out he is very different than most people after being selected for a very special job. The book and movie follow the same story line, but they are both different in a lot of ways. The differences between the movie and the book is Jonas and Fiona’s relations, the whole assignment situation, and Jonas’s escape.
Those three parts in the movie are very important. The first difference is the romantic relations between Jonas and Fiona. In the book, Jonas and Fiona never shared any romantic feelings with each other. Jonas kind of felt as though he has a

That’s kind of a broad subject but there are many little parts from the movie that were very different from the book. One part of his escape was getting Gabe. In the book, Gabe was already at the house and Jonas took him on his dad’s bike to get away. On the other hand, in the movie Jonas had to go to the place where the babies are kept. He had Fiona help him and he stole Gabe from the building. Another part of Jonas’s escape plan was his help from Fiona and how he got away. When he went into the building and he asked Fiona to come with him, which was confusing because it didn’t happen in the book. He also had Fiona pretend to be stealing a baby with people chasing her so that he could get away with Gabe. He got away and there were all these people searching for him so that he wouldn’t get away. In the book, he got away safe and sound with no one knowing about it except the Giver. It makes to movie more intense and it keeps you on the edge of your seat, but it shouldn’t have been such a big change. It’s hard to think of a reason that they would make such a big difference. It’s most likely because they wanted the movie to be more

Movies and books are always different; in a movie you can show multiple characters, and in most books you're stuck in one character's narrative. For instance in the book The Giver the character Fiona doesn’t care about Jonas as deeply as she does in the movie. In the movie she stops her injections, and she starts to love Jonas. However in the book she only “enjoys having Jonas’s company”. In the movie she also helps Jonas steal Gabe before he is killed, and she is put in the community jail for helping…

The Giver, action-packed and full of adventure both in the movie and book. Although differences may apply they are both fascinating. Imagine a community where your feelings are tucked away from a pill? Both in the movie and the book Jonas was skipped during the ceremony of the twelve. Jonas was frightened and embarrassed and thought he wasn’t good enough to get selected to do anything. This is a pretty big key in the book because this is the time Jonas becomes the receiver of memory. Towards the…

Although I enjoyed the book and movie, there are some noticeable differences seen between each. It was actually one of the best books I've ever read. This year, a movie was made on the story. The story follows Jonas who gets all these memories, and he realizes all the dark and deadly truths about the communities secret past. The movie sort of focuses more on the romantic aspect of the story; the love between Rosemary and Jonas. The book does more to capture the unconditional love Jonas had for Gabe…

The book, The Giver is very different from the film. One of those differences is character development. I think the strongest character development difference is with Fiona. In the book she was a more minor character who stayed the same throughout the book, as far as we know. In the movie she started off as more of a docile person, but by the end she was a lot more asserting. Fiona’s development starts when she decides to stop taking the injections. This is a big leap because everyone in the community…

Finally, the long-awaited movie adaptation of the Giver is here. However, no movie adaptation stays completely true to its source material, and the Giver is no different. The Giver movie sustained some massive changes to its characters and plot, not all of which were good. The movie changed the characters’ ages. In the movie, the characters were aged to the average dystopian-fiction age. While Lily only aged a year, Jonas and his friends aged a lot more, jumping from twelve to eighteen. This…
