1. Describe Jonas’ feelings when he receives the memory of snow. It was very surprising to him and wasn’t frightening at all. He felt the air change and his breath was cold. He could feel cold air twirling around his body and he felt it blow against his hands where they lay at his sides, and over his back.
2. After Jonas has received his first memory, what do you think his expectations for the future as The Receiver are? To receive more memories and learn more about true pain and pleasure of the real world.

Why do you think that pain has been taken away from the community? Why do you think that Jonas needs to experience pain as The Receiver? Many years ago, the community has decided not to share all the painful memories of the past; so, they shared all the memories and responsibilities to Receiver who is honored but also isolated from the rest of the society.
6. Describe Jonas’ ability to “see beyond”. What is it that he can see? Why do you think that the community decided to take away colours? (p. 124 in the book). Jonas is possible to see things beyond what other people in the community can’t see because they don’t have the memories and abilities to see it. For example, Jonas realizes the colour red in Fiona’s hair. As Giver said that the community decided to choose sameness, so they gave up colours.
